Its my first 35%. Its a Sukhoi Su 31its got a 2.6meter wing span running a dla 112 motor. i dont have the servos yet cant afford them. i have most of the rest of the gear just need to spend the time to finish it. i made the cockpit setup myself i like it.

I wish I had a plane that size. I would need to take two garbage bags with me! guess thats why I fly smaller stuff! Very cool

Nitro planes 100cc Sukhoi. There are afew problems with that airframe you need to know about. First off it's way heavy for the size of plane. Secondly, the wing tube isn't big enough and high energy moves will most likely bend it.

There is a thread on flying giants concerning the plane and making it flyable. I had one too, but eventually gave up on it. With some mods apparently they fly pretty well, but you really need to look through the thread below to get some ideas about how to fix yours first unless you just want a big airplane that you can only fly like a cub.

Yeah it'd 96 pages, but if you don't read all the garbage and just look at the posts of weight reduction etc, you'll get the idea.

Where's the hot chick holding the plane?
 When I first read that, I thought it said "Who's the hot chick holding the plane?"

I'm like, "Dayum, Mike, that's a little harsh. Funny, but harsh." :p

Its still a work in progress. there is still quiet a bit of work to do yet. this is just a mock up for the photo. only the rudder is glued in place so far i have i side of the rest of the hinges glued still got a lot to go. i have a dla 112 in it already im going to add smoke. not sure on servos yet as i cant afford them. im going to use wolverine switch 2 a123 into a 14c futaba rx no power boards. and another a123 for ignition and smoke. i have added some extra hinges on the elevator and rudder as 3 on each just did not seem enough.

I know they are not meant to fly that great but it was cheap and its my first giant. so im going to assume in my hand it wont last so after this im thinking a pilot sbach or something like that and using this to do my learning on

Nah, it should last forever since you're not flying Spektrum.

So you are waiting on servos, so you have the time to make this right. The problem with your theroy is this... waiting for and expecting a crash on this size of a plane is just stupid. a 40 size plane can so some serious damage. A plane this size could easily kill someone and or damage a lot of property depending on where it went in at. Secondly, when it does go in planes this size usually break more than just the airframe. I'm guessing if you can't afford servos you probably can't afford to shed a cylinder off that motor in a crash. (none of us really can or want too)

So why not take the time, take some weight out of it, fix the wing tube, and end up with a good flying plane, instead of a heavy turd that in your own words is just going to crash?

I realize in the end it's your money, your time, and you are going to do what you want with them, I just know with a little work, that plane could be a really good plane, and it would make your first giant scale experience a positive one. Not trying to step on your toes or hurt your feelings, just trying to convince you to spend the time to make it right! :)

I have to agree with Cappy!!

If your going to take the time to do it, why not take a few extra steps to do it right?? Learn from our mistakes..........

#22 ·
Yea in all seriousness I agree too, you sheer a cylinder mangle some servos etc etc, its just not worth it, this isnt a beater mojo you picked up at the swap meet and thru 5 buck servos and a wore out thundertiger .46 on.

If your planning for it to crash and replacing it with quality, why not just go quality the first time and save the money from your crash.

If the plane is known to be heavy already, why add weight with a smoke sys? Just saying.

#25 ·
I think the smoke stuff is cool, if he trims that pig down like Cappy suggested. Might be a good trade-off!! :rockoncool:

from all things i have read they need nose weight. short of doing the diet and stripping all the covering which i know is a pain in the ass and i cant see the dollars spent being wroth it. i want the smoke to help balance it. i have seen photos of lots of lead in the nose of 1 so why not make it usable weight.
im not planing or for seeing a major right off with it i am better than that. i am saying it is likely to get damaged of some sort, maybe from a heavy landing or something like that. its more going to be a test bed for me to learn once im happy i can fly it nice and keep it whole i might look at another plane. as my first giant it just has a slightly higher risk to it than anything else
