What to get?? Where to get it??

Guys just getting into the electric craze always ask these questions. I thought I'd make a sticky and try to answer a few. If anybody knows any other sources that they have dealt with and I might have missed, let me know and I'll put them up here.

Raw materials:

Depron is nice stuff for building foamys, has a nice finish, but it's kinda expensive. Some places I know of to get it are

Lots of folks use fan fold foam. This is the blue stuff. It's not as purty as Depron, but it's a heck of a lot cheaper. Great for indoor where midairs are common, easy to find at larger Lowes or Home Depot type stores I have never bought any, if anybody has any tips about buying the stuff, let me know.

You will need some carbon fiber tubes for re-inforcement:

The last place sells Depron as well.

Thanks Chuck!

Great idea.
Don't forget the other electric stuff.. Here's a few I have.

Motor's and gearboxes www.b-p-p.com
Batteries and Electrics www.allerc.com
Yeah, I been busy, I'm gonna compile the "Mother of all Links" shortly. Hope to cover just about everything!
Even recommended motors/ESC's for 40 sized profile conversions?

I'm feeling the need for one of those sometime soon.
I can try...I don't have nearly the experience with that size yet.
Dont forget Troybuiltmodels.com Gene is selling alot of foamy stuff now, and has it all in stock...I was just at his shop the other day, and picked up some LiPos, and a new gearbox...aso got a Monte foamy plane..very nice
Maxxprod has you covered on the very cool anodized blue motor mounts and Himaxx motors.

I use the mount and it really helps keep the heat down.

I was wondering if there was a place to get a motor, gearbox and ESC all in one package (maybe at some discount). Some of the links offer 2, but couldnt find one that had all 3. BPP seemed to have better prices.

Which gearbox ratio should I get for a typical foamy with a razor 350 CC25?
Doh! went and edited my post before I realized I got an answer.
Hey Chuck

Wheres your mother of all links. I need to get a foamy so I can fly without having to brave the Wisconsin winter. Give us the links for the best deals to start out in foamyville.
Heres a combo for the Himax 2015-4100, Aluminum Gearbox and CC10 for $99. Good buy!

Spin'r:

I want to get that combo, and the price looks great too! Is the CC10 suffecient or should I get a CC25? I might want to move this combo over to one of the other foamies around...3DFoamy Cap or Pitts, or the E-Flight Ultimate. I dont want to be limited if you know what I mean....Will the CC1 give me all the performance I will ever need for a foamy?

Jon
Jon, Im no expert but I think the CC10 will give you more than enough power for any type of foamy flying and then some. But if you want a better answer you should ask Auger. He could tell to what extent the CC10 will be good for.
I already ordered itwith the CC10. I don't see swapping SC/BEC's among airframes, and if I did, it'd be on 2015-4100 setups anyway. Now if I went larger in motors, then I would have gone to the CC25, but the CC10 is rated to 15A surge, and the 2015-4100 will not go much above that in normal flight/3D. I think I'd only come close to pushing it in hard punchouts, but they are amost always breif anyway.
