TT 46 needles

May be a stupid question (like thats a first  ) One your TT 46 pro where did the high end needle end up?
Here's the situation..... Running CCB Fuels 15% plus C ( Ya know "engine crack :D ) The engine is broken in (About 1 Gal total as of today ) Tons of power, NOT running hot.
This last weekend it would keep quitting after being in the air @ 2 min. or so,Deadstick it in and the engine is HOT. I thought maybe I was to lean so I fatten the high end up 1 or 2 clicks, same thing.
Last night I was the only one at the field so I wanted to get this thing right for N-ville. Here is the strange part. To get good runs I ended up leaning the thing out almost 1/4 a turn! Purred like a kitten for about 4 flights. I would land and the engine wasn't hot everything was great again until the 5th tank same thing again run for 2 or 3 min then quit! By then it was to dark to fly so I didn't get to mess with it but I'm thinking the fix will be the same, lean it out a little.
So long ass story short :D My high end needle is now at 1.75 turns open I'm thinking I'll end up between that and 1.5 to get it running right again. Just wondering where everyone else is at?????????

Fuelman, If you read this you have seen this engine run. any ideas?

one of mine is...believe it or not...about 3/4 turn out and the other is 1.5 turns out.... The both run the same....GREAT!
WOW 3/4! Sound like I'm getting in the ball park at 1.75
I guess as long as the engine isn't running lean (or too rich ) I'm OK. I just didn't know if it's still "breaking-in" or if I was chasing another problem.
Why would it be hot when it was too rich?
Don't know...I was having the same problem with a WEBRA 50GT. Great and powerfull but 2-3 minutes in flight and it would sag and quit on me. And the engine WAS HOT(and I was rich as well). The engine rotated smoothly too, my buddy suggested that the bearings might be going and that's what was generating all the heat as the engine ran. Made since to me, so now I'm ordering some new bearings to see. When I pulled the old bearings out they looked REAL nasty. Any way just a thought.
Hate to thinck that is the problem (bearings) but I will check as I never thought of it.

What fuel where you running? I've found that running my Webra's on 10% nitro with 20% oil (some castor) really helps keep them cool. I've also found that if the tank is straped too tight, or too far away, you can have fuel delivery problems resulting in power sags.
Steve,
sounds like your engine is still settling in. Don't get excited about where the needle setting is (number of turns out that is) just tune it to a peak and get it to operating temp, and back it off about 400 or more rpms. You'll see this engine get stronger and stronger with time. You absolutly must get it to operating temp as soon as possible after startup, thats where design fit is at with the piston and sleeve.

I seriously doubt that the bearings are in need of replacement.

give me a call steve.

Brian
sounds to me like a classic cut in the fuel pick up line, as the tank empties and exposses the leak to air the engine leans out and quits all my tt's have run solid out of the box, they are so close they dont need much breakin, what prop and plug?
