I'm using the Tetherite Landing gear on my OMP Edge540. Its too flexible in my opinion. The gear flexes about 1/2-1 inch on the weight of the plane alone. I had a less than stellular landing today. Although it was less than perfect is was hardly terrible...but the gear was so flexible it allowed the prop to get chewed up. I sanded the ends and continued on...but at that rate, I'm going to need to buy props by the 6 pack.

I was thinking about making a strap out of tin (less than 1/2 inch wide) drilling holes on each end of the gear and running the strap between the pieces about 1/2 way up to take out the flex. I'm guessing that on a really bad landing, this strap will break or tear out of the screw ends but would take out some of the flex.

I'm guessing that most are replacing with MW landing gear from the start...but I'd rather avoid that currently.

Tetherite makes 2 different landing gears for 40 sized profiles, a light one and a heavy duty. The heavy duty will not flex like you mention and are more durable than anything I've ever seen mounted on a plane.

No, actually OMP ordered the wrong ones to send out with their kits. At one time they were retro-fitting kits already sold to the stronger version. I'd contact OMP about a retro-fit or Tetherite to get the stronger version.

What Chuck said is absolutly correct. I believe OMP was sending customers who contacted them the correct gear. Ray gave them what they asked for is what I heard.

I too have the "light" gear on my Sledge, and it's too flexy. I currently have a tie wrap slung between 2 pieces of music wire about 1/3 of the way down. It has worked great for many many landings (100's probably) and I probably won't get around to changing them 'til they break.

Yeh Dion wants me to send mine back and then he'll send me new ones. Great deal since 90% of the people don't want to take their plane out of commission for 6 weeks while landing gear goes back and forth. I guess I will need to modify mine as I had planned and fix them. I doubt my plane will last 100 landings....

That's a very good point, doesn't sound right. Why don't you just tell them you didn't mind sending them your money and believe they would send a plane, so they shouldn't mind sending you landing gear (and return postage, it aint your fault) and you will send your's back. It's different if it's an unknown problem, but this ain't news to anyone.

Maybe copy Mike P. so he sees how it's going down.

Yeah, I got some of the bogus 40 size gear myself. They wanted me to box it up and ship it back for replacement. More trouble than it's worth. It's useless gear, I'll just go another route.

That's wrong guys, don't let it go like that. Let Mike know it's wrong to make you go get new gear on your own. I toasted a Speed Control on my Zagi (years ago) and those guys sent me a new one and an envelope to send the old one back for "study". That's the way customers are treated!!

I received the ultimate service from Castle Creations. I had a speed control go bad while under warranty. I called and he didn't even ask me when I bought it, he just said, "Let's get a new one out to you right away. What's your address. I'll send a prepaid envelope with the new one to put the old one in to ship back."

I'll never buy another brand of speed control!

I think that Jeff's gear is available this week. Just ask some of the guys that have been testing it......it's supossed to pretty damn good. I know Im gonna be giving it a shot on my new Kat 70. And I think it costs the same as Tetherites gear.

I know I know........Im a shill......and a shameless one at that

No shame Keykey. But YES, the gear is now ready. I can start shipping tomorrow, however I only have a couple sets of the white, but plenty of the black and natural. The price is $14.95 and $3.85 for shipping, it will fit planes up to 8.5lb. It will work great on any 40 size plane and I even have had them tested on the OMP 65" yak at 8.25lb. Kat 70 is perfect for this gear, nice clearance. I am having Billy put up a banner ad Wednesday. Jeff W.

Yeah, it's shameless alright...but Jeff just TOTALLY eclipsed your shilling  And in a thread called "Tetherite gear" no less

BTW I'm pretty impressed with my Jeff Williams gear...though I haven't flown them yet. Stroke of genius making them fit both sizes of planes.

Hey, did I mention I have this tShirt comapny...www.RCeXpressions.com....cool stuff, check it out :)
