ok so a while back i broke my ef edge right on that weak point about an inch aft of the ailerons, and now that im finally starting to get my projects done, im gonna turn my attention back to the edge... usually a repair is also an opportunity for a mod, so i was thinking... i've seen a stretched MH knife, anyone think adding 2 or 3 inches to the tail moment of the edge would be fun?

well i gone and done it. re-maiden has been delayed twice due to rain and speeding tickets.

here's a pic:

have swtiched out the motor from an mvvs.49 to an (aging) os 46fx on a rossi pipemuffler or morris full pipe, havent decided which , but the full pipe is like 3 ounces heavier.

changes since last crash include : 2.5" stretch starting just in front of tail servos, new gas tank, new aileron hinging (changed from CA hinges to mid size pinned hinges) and motor swap. motor is also approx 3/8" farther back from the MVVS mounting point, which could change the moments a little, but not as much as the tail stretch.

btw, after i had set the stretch in stone, (well, glue), i compared it side-by-side with my (late) katana P arf, and the moments are basically the same (with the stretch) as on that model.

balances juuust fine, in fact i put an ounce and a half in with the repairs and took 2 ounces of tail weight out, so that's a net gain, right?

any thoughts?

the story is, I cartwheeled it, then noticed some cracking on the fuse. so i cut out some of the sheeting and spliced the cracked trusswork, and then just patched in new sheeting, leaving a straight seam between the new and old sheeting. well on the next hard deadstick landing, the tail just folded over without even touching anything.

I saw someone mention how it seems like profiles are tending towards longer moments, so i wanted to see what it would do to my edge... i already have a tumbler, so i was trying to see if it could make the edge track smoothly, knife better, and/or hover solidly. also i needed tail weight.

so we'll see how this little experiment turns out definitely by the weekend.
