The only way to find out is to try it. Depending on the gap and the plane, it can make a huge difference. If you want to find out quickly if it's worth it, clean the bottom of the hinge line with alcohol and seal the gap with clear tape. If it makes a big difference, replace it with something more permanent (alothugh clear packing tape lasts quite a while :)).

Before my time thank gawd.

So why resurrect this?

But fwiw I seal my hinges unless they turn out super PAR tight. Scotch tape will do fine.

Sense then I don't get any flutter when I have tight linkages.

Mostly just cause I was bored.... :) And it's still a pertinent question. I don't think I've ever sealed a profile's hinge gaps... perhaps I should. Although I've been flying Profiles for about 15 years and never had an issue so maybe I shouldn't??

See still to this day it's a quandary. :)

Hey if you can't bedazzle em with brilliance, at least baffle them with bullshit....

I also resurrected this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=596&view=unread#unread just for the fun of it too. It too as old as it is, still pertains to today's brotherhood. And and and....... it's got a picture of Swanny calling everyone a ***! :)
I like to see some of the old threads. Where the hell did everyone go? What happened to Gator?
i use to love his Photoshop work like hovering while taking a dump :D

I sent him a PM about some vinyl about 2 weeks ago and it still shows as unread. Also sent an email with no response. Last time he posted was way back in October. Hope he's OK...

I always do it and I do think it makes a difference. All my planes fly awesome. I do think that if you are flying ProBro style, low, slow, wild etc. it probably won't matter much. It's when you get any speed with airflow over the airfoil that it starts to make a difference. The change in pressure over the airfoils tends to make high pressure seek out low pressure and that's when the airflow leaks through the hinge gaps. It's more pronounced a a regular type wing with more curvature on the top of the wing making the airflow faster, but with an airfoil shaped the same as in the profiles or like a tail surface which is flat on both sides, it will only change pressure when the control surface is deflected.
Bottom line, I wouldn't worry about it. I'm just an fricken anal OCD builder that takes six months to build a profile.

didn't matter he wasted it a week later LOL

I put my shit on the ground or it will end up there anyway and you may not like how it gets there. He fried a tx got all hyper and plugged in the battery backwards LOL his shit hits the ground to LOL antenna in the prop knox tx on the grond with the wing LOL

FWIW, I seal the hinge gaps with either clear scotch tape or blenderm........even on my profiles. Sealing the aileron gap makes no difference at slow speeds, but at faster speeds sealing the gap makes the plane roll noticeably quicker. Sealing the gap on the elevator and rudder doesn't produce a dramatic change like sealing the ailerons, but it does help make those control surfaces more effective.
