I've heard the 14x4W is the prop of choice for the Saito 72.
14 4 w on 30% but it has lag 14/4 zinger a little less pull but it hits
I want to run 15% fuel, would that be a problem
I only run 15% in my 4 stroke Saitos, no problem at all, IMO the 14x4w was too much, spool up wasn't good. I suppose the 30% would help that a little. I too tried the 14x4 Zinger, worked well but freaking break them all the time. I found that the MA 14x6 classsic or Simitar plastic (hard to find the plastic) worked very well and lasted through the little ground loops, kartwheels, and such.

I've gone to 6 pitch props on my 4 strokes (.72, .91, 1.00) They seem to find the sweet spot easier/faster. Less throttle management, more time to work the tail. And they seem to TR easier too.
I have tried all kinds of props on my saito .72 and the ones I haven't tried my good buddy smallfly has. The all around best 3-d prop for a profile funfly under 5lbs is a Master airscrew 13-6 simitar plastic. It has a good sweet spot for hovering, and really helps the plane spin in a TR. The 13-6 apc isn't to bad, but I still prefer the MA scimitar.
If you ever notice the cool pic clip with the profile extreme flight edge in the ditch?? That is me flying with my saito 72 with the 13-6 scimitar. I also only run 10% fuel most of the time. I have tried 15% and really can't tell much difference. 30% makes a little difference but not worth the extra cost IMO!
I just discovered the MA Scimitar 13x6. Ron F gave me one at Nashville to try, and I was impressed how well it helped spinning moves.

Ron explained that the extra pitch gives "more air over the tail" and I believe it! He said it doesn't have the instant "pull" out of a hover that a larger diameter would, but is a very nice compromise for moves in which you want instant rudder or pitch authority.

I haven't tried it long enough to compare with my otherwise all time fave -- the Zinger 14x4. But both are very good compromises.

As others have said, the APC 14x4 gives max thrust, but nas noticeable lag cause it's so heavy.
WOW We just had like 4 guys agree on a prop choice.....isn't that a record?????

Do you guys have a source for the plastic simitars? I can't find them in the sizes I like in Tower, and the LHS says they are always on backorder.
OOPS!!!! I just noticed I said 14x6 Scimitar for the Saito .72. My mistake. I too meant the 13x6. I use the 14x6 on the .91. Sorry, hope I didn't sound too stupid....
Yes, but it's the 14x6 that I can't find in plastic.
Hey guys thanks for your help, I will be ordering some tonight :D
ggibson: you buy a 4 stroke?
Personally I like the Master Airscrew K-Series 13x6, but no one prop is 'best'. I just like the throttle management and overall response I get with this prop on my Saito 72's.
Jim D you are a stupid bastard! Only a stupid bastard would like the K series prop! :D You my freind let the cat out of the bag on that one!

I haven't tried that prop, but I did like the 16-6 k series when I had a 120 four stroke! But of course I wan't 3-Ding back then either!

That fits right in with the others. I'm just surprised that there are so many of us not saying "Oh, you gotta have an APC....."

Well, I tried the 13x4 and 14x4 APC's. The 14x4W was a little soggy on throttle response for my preferences. And the 13x4W was 'notchy' around hover, climb/fall with not much sweet spot. On these 4-5 lb profiles the 13x6K gives a nice flat response around mid throttle and just seems easy to manage.

I need to try the scimitar version and see what it's like. I definately wouldn't use the original MA general purpose prop  waaaay to flexy, but the K series does the trick for me.

Yep Brian, you just might like it on a 3D bird as well
