My daughter is selling magazine subscriptions for her school.
There are 2 on the list to consider: Flying Models & Model Airplane News.
Are either of these worth a shit?
I'm gonna check out their web sites for myself, but I know the Bros have opinions on all things RC...

I like M.A.N. but its doesnt do alot of reviews on kits, its mostly ARF's, all there reviews seem positive, like they dont want to piss the manufactor off.....I still like it ..got good adds, especially those Chief Aviation adds

I've never been a subscriber to Flying Models....I want to say that it may cater to the smaller stuff like electrics and .36 size or smaller. The volumes that I've seen I dont remember seeing in gieant scale stuff..

if you like to look at pics, get them both,..

I also like RCM, but the mag that iwll probably give you the fairest assesment will be RC Report

Gator
I was hoping RC Report would be on her list - no luck... There are also some music CDs on the list - but I sure as Hell know better that to ask you bunch of heavy-metal head-banging goobers for suggestions.
I like M.A.N. and I agree with Gator about Flying Models.
I ditched MAN this year after seeing a blatantly MFG-friendly review of a GWS a-10, which i've read on forums is about as flight worthy on stock setup as a fresh monkey turd - It'll go as far as its thrown.

OTOH, i loved it for 8 years. I liked all the pictures, and the how-to stuff at the beginning, and the last page of tech stuff is neat. I might get an r/c report sub, but we shall see. FLY RC looks half-decent, but is on par with MAN I think.

flying models i've checked out on the newstand a few times and leans more towards small to medium sized scale and free flight/control line stuff. it's an old timer's mag.

I remember about 20 years ago that I was subscribed to at least a dozen magazines covering model airplanes, computers and dirt-bikes.

These days however, I'm not subscribed to a single bit of ink-stained dead-tree.

For me, the Net has made printed magazines all but totally redundant.

This may be due in part to the fact that magazines down here are so damned expensive -- I think the last time I bought a US modelling mag it cost me about NZ$15.

The other problem is that all the US/European magazines that appear in our shelves are at least six weeks out of date because they've been shipped surface freight half-way around the world.

By comparison, I can get the latest information for free by simply logging onto the Net. What's even better, I can discuss my interests with cool dudes like those who frequent this place.

Magazines are read-only, the Net is interactive. Give me interactive every time!

MAN's OK, just don't expect honest reviews. They're fishing for advertising revenue and everything always flys great!

My sub to MAN is up and I'm not renewing. By far the best Mag I've seen is the new 3-D Flyer! For what we do, it's the best. In depth technical explanations, great pics, a Pro-Bro column and the best compilation of writers/flyers in the business.

They really don't do reviews as such, but the best in the business at that is definitely RC Report. Gordon Banks will keep you rolling and the hard hitting reviews will keep you from wasting money on poorly designed products.

Now you know what my 2 subs are..........
