Me like!
I've been running the Himax 2015 4100 for a long time and just love them, they are IMHO a perfect balance between cost and performance.
Hacker makes a motor with a similar Kv rating (4100 + or -), the B20 22S. The bad thing is...they cost like $102 new. That's just too dang much money for a little bitty motor when you could get 2 Himax's for the same coin....
Well, I was just able to pick up a used one for $60 shipped. And man is it a stud. It's not very user friendly, the shaft is 2.3mm so you have to drill the GWS pinion out. Luckily, I have a 6" Atlas lathe so I can do this with pretty good precision, but still I was afraid I'd screw up. That's something pretty small to chuck on, don't have to take a very big cut with a #43 drill to get it done.
So I slap that puppy in a gearbox and BAM! It turns a good 700 RPM more than the 4100 on a 12X6 GWS prop. Now if it isn't drawing too much juice for my batteries, not that I'd need much throttle...I can overspeed my airframes with the 4100, so this is gonna be hard to keep my "foot" out of.
Fits right in the GWS gearbox, no mods needed.
So just about the time I thought I had the most overpowered plane on the block, it just got better. I never liked the GWS 11 X 4.7 as much as the 12X6, but now I can bump 6000 on the tach with the 11X4.7, might be worth a look.
