Okay...what prop?

Here is the setup:

HiMax 2015-4100; HiMax gearbox w/6.6:1 ratio; E-Tec 1200 3s1p; CC10 ESC (upgrading to a CC25 soon...)

I had an APC 12x6E prop on it, and you can tell that it is laboring to spin it up. I modified a GWS 12x6 SF (orange) prop to fit the collett, a little better thrust, but not near what I was getting on a 350 brushed on the same pack. I figure it is the CC10 that is limiting the current to the motor, thereby reducing the thrust, but I have read other posts that have the same setup and they seem to be getting massive amounts of thrust.

My programming on the ESC is: 9v cutoff, soft cut off, no brake, medium timing, hard start.

Have I just overpropped this motor? What should I be running on it?

Thanks,

Jon

Huh Strange that is the same setup I am running execpt I am running the CC-25. Throttle is almost instant. I did notice a difference in the 12-6 props from APC and GWS favoring GWS.

Strap on the CC-25 when it comes in and then you will know for sure.
My whattmeter says the 12x6 apc is at the upper limits of the CC 10. I've had good luck with the GWS 11x4.7. Just a thought.
I modified a GWS 12x6 SF (orange) prop to fit the collett,
I'm getting ready to jump into foamys.
I'm going to get the himax 2015-4100 on the blue gearbox and the cc 25.
Please teach me something.
What do you mean by "modify" the GWS prop to fit?
I have the 2015-4100, 6:6:1 GP CCP 25 and etec 1200 spinning a GWS 12x6 SF and it has Kick Your ASS vertical on a 14 oz foamy. It's gotta be your ESC.
Cool....I just sold the CC10 and will order a CC25 today.

To "Modify" the GWS prop, I bored out the hole to fit the MiMaxx prop adapter, then cut off the protrusions on each side of the prop hub to thin it enough for the adapter...basically took it down to the sholder on the prop hub. Take a look at one and you'll see what I mean.

I thought the stock GWS prop slid right on a Himax gear box shaft? I may be wrong...only seen one up close. Is there a prop adapter you could just take off?
Nope, the Himax gearbox has a smooth shaft and a compression grip prop adapter. The prop adapter slips on the shaft and when you tighten th prop on it, it clamps down on the shaft.

Some of the gearboxes come with shortened hardened shafts... they are about 3mm dia.. with a prop adapter.. the adapter fits the 3 mm shaft but the prop shaft is increased to about 3/16 or more..
The hole in the GWS props are 3 mm dia.. you have to enlarge the shaft hole to the diameter of the prop shaft in order to fit them..
The stock GWS gearbox has a threaded 3mm shaft that fits the GWS prop without any mods.. just slide the prop to the shaft nut.. then put on the front nut.. or spinner.. if that's what you have.. ususally a nut though..

If you use a shortened shaft.. with a prop saver... a-la worbly prop saver... you don't need to modify the GWS prop..
Where can you get the worbly (or is it wobbly) propsavers at?

Not sure the cc25 will help. I have 2 foam 3d planes with cc10's and himaxx4100 in the gws 661 gearboxes and vertical is crazy. I just finished a tribute with the same setup except a cc25 and its performance was about the same. Etec 1200 3s1.
I will say however that the www.foamyfactory.com extra was far better at 3d than the Tribute. It had lots of coupling although its flight was very good.
