Ray,
It's a small world isn't it. I live about a mile north of northwoods mall in north Charleston. How long ago did you live in Chas? It has changed drastically in the last ten years. The price of real estate has skyrocketed! Did you fly while you lived here?
CAFB is the home of my babies....the Mighty C-17 Globemaster III. Otherwise known as the powerlifter of the Air Force. This pic is from me chasing a C-17 test bird out at Edwards. Oh yea, I'm in an F-16 chase plane. Man was that fun! Awesome plane, I bet you see a ton of them flying around Charleston!
Mike I worked avionics on both of those planes. In the guard I worked both block 10 and block 52 f16's. In the reserves I worked in AFIN on the C-17. I wanted so bad to be a pilot, but I never finished college (the 20/20 hindsight is kicking in now). I enjoyed my time in, but it was getting in the way of my civillian job.
Well I'm not a pilot but a Flight Test Engineer or FTE. I think in some ways that was much more fun as I don't have to worry about currency and gates and all that stuff. Still had my share of requirements but was loads of fun while it lasted. Unfortunately though I had to leave Edwards and come to Oh where the weather is awesome.....NOT!
I bet that a ride in an F16 would be awesome! The closest thing that I ever got to ride in to compare to that would be a C141 or a Huey (liked the Huey a WHOLE lot more! ). We lowly grunts only got to see the fighters from a distance, as in overhead!
Been on a couple of C-130's myself! They were pretty cool. My least favorite ride was the CH-47. For some reason that thing made me queasy every time I got on it! I think that maybe it was because we were cooped up in there with no breeze.
Maybe I should be riding in a Stearman instead of an F-16!
I saw a many of my shopmates, that thought they were real men, made into real wusses by an f16. Seems that the bigger they were the harder they puked! I also flew in a blackhawk once, what a rush. We were flying over FT Jackson at treetop level at 130 knots.
Yeah, I'm afraid that's how I would be! I liked the Huey because I could get a breeze in my face. Nothing like flying tactical over treetops with your toes hanging over the edge!
