Man... That looks like a lot of work gettin all that coverin off.....
Whoa that does look like a lot of work. What does it look like with the covering off...quality wise that is.
I hope the nakedness of your Katana doesn't cause us to regress again with other web sites that are porn sensitive. :p

I would say the building quality is good, I've never seen this kind of covering though, looks like a fabric when you look at it from the backside, also alot of times when peeling it a clear layer would come off leaveing the pigment yellow, I took some acetone to the wing where some of the covering got left behind and it eat it and smeared it, alittle sand paper took the rest of the covering off. I rounded the edges of the fuse
Sounds like the same POS covering modeltech has used on the Magic Extra.

You finish that Yak yet Gator?

not yet, but I did get the table thats its been covered up on cleaned off today...
Just got mine today. IT is the same crap as on the magic extra(had one) and yes it sticks like crazy when I tried to peal it off to glue the crap together.

Looks like it leaves the same mess too! I stripped and recovered a Magic Extra for the Memphis Pro Bro. Over a week of stripping and covering to get it presentable again. I did just the top after I saw how much work it would be. Bout halfway through the second day I tok it in at full throttle in the middle of the runway. Naturally the Bro's were happy to violate it lol.

The top pic is laid out. The bottom is actually how I found it on the field. I'll NEVER recover another plane again! Too much trouble...

Man I'm glad I sold the extra one I had that I was planning on stripping and recovering. But I ordered a kit from omp, looks like it would be easier to build one.
Well if the Kat covering is anything like the Magic Extra, I couldn't have done it. Like Gator said, the clear peels off and leaves the color. I soaked it with acetone and scrubbed it with sandpaper. It never really dried up so it was like wiping off a bunch of pencil eraser shavings. Then of course for my trouble, I total it three days later... I might consider patching one up that I covered with Ultracote, but never again on an ARF. When the covering goes, it's time to sell!

You da man Gator! You have more patience that I do...
Here is a pic of some tribal art and some tattoo copies that I cut out of ultra coat trying to come up with some designs for the new bird

#2 The dragon will fill one side of the wing after I enlarge it and the Tribal art will also be larger.

winky -

take the "tribal" bit one step further and look at some of the custom motorcycle paint jobs that incorporate these shapes. best examples I've seen are at the orange county choppers' website (of american chopper fame). basically they take the tribal shapes or the super-stylized flame shapes and fill the whole part with it, im definitely going to go with that theme for my next covering job (my current one is TOP SECRET!)
