Here are some pictures of my latest build which is a Geebee Profile Z. It was designed by a friend and is the second iteration of this plane. Its 3/4 inch blueboard foam with 1/8" balsa built over it using titebond glue. Should have the wings done in the next couple days (It's a two piece wing design.. really slick. The original plane is being flown with an O.S. .70 four stroke. I just happen to have one laying around that got pulled from my Funtana before I sold it. Although a Saito 100 sounds mighty tempting.... Here's some more info:
weight: ~ 5 lbs.
length: 52"
wingspan: 51"
Flight performance is outstanding. It only took me 15 seconds at the sticks to convince me to build it. Plane flies VERY neutral... Crazy-slow high alpha maneuvers, 10 ft rolling loops, extremely easy to hover, verrry tight flat spins, zero knife edge coupling (though you could probably tell by looking at the fuse.) The Rudder is VERY authoritative. In a hover, I can flip it end over end right back into a hover so fast it's scary. Also, it's not nearly as short coupled as the other GeeBee profiles out there. I never thought I'd like a plane more than my Ohio Edge (which is still one of my favorites though.) If anyone has and questions about this plane or the build, I'd be happy to answer them. I keep telling my friend that he should mass produce these plans, the plane is such an excellent design. I can't wait to start the next build (it's a second generation pattern/profile design from the same person who designed the GeeBee). It's getting cooler up here in NH so I gotta get this thing done. Oh yeah, I'll be calling her the 3DeeBee (friend came up with the name). I'll be posting more pics as the build progresses. Later Bros.
Here's one more shot for size comparison next to my Ohio Edge. Thanks to whoever came up with that crazy trim scheme idea. It was too cool that I had to steal it. (Gator would be proud If anyone uses G2, I made this trim scheme for the Extra Special if anyone wants it. Also I have the 3dBee plane file and trim scheme for G2 as well. It flies just like the real one does.
Thanks Par! I'm actually taking a break from building the elevator. Should be done tonight. I'll be doing the wing in the next day or two (it should only take a few hours.. the wing is very simple to build.) As far as plans go, I would like to make them available, I just need to get off my lazy ass and do something about it. I'll post some more pictures tonight.
Here are the shots of the Horizontal stab/Elevator. The original design just has a 1/4 flat stock for a stab. I may change the design and build it out of sticks... Not sure yet. Wing pics coming soon.
Thanks for the pictures of the completed plane.. I was actually going to ask you for some completed pics. You read my mind. Can't wait to get this thing done. Pat, do you still have the video files of this thing in flight?
I just talked to Aero3dPat and he has some videos of this in flight. Problem is, we have no place to host the vids. Once people see how this thing flies, it's only a matter of time before the profile kit manufacturers replicate it. Won't surprise me if the name gets stolen also. There really is a void in the profile market for a well flying (3d) geebee (especially the Z). I can't speak for the Morris Geebee - I've never flown it. It looks like a completely different design. All credit for this design should go to Aero3dPat. He is truly gifted when it comes to aircraft design. Thanks everyone for the feedback! Remember where you saw it first - the Probro Website!
