I got my latest running. Extra 300 from 3dfoamy.com. I just downloaded the plans and made it from blue fan fold and hot glued it together. Painted with Testor's spray paint. Running a E-Tec 3s1p 1200mah pack. Right now it has a GWS350 with D gear, but I have a Himaxx 2015/4100 in the mail.

I maidened it last night in my back yard. My patio is 15x15 square, but the 3 cells made it jump off the ground in under 5 feet. I had runway to spare  :D

Now that I know it flies I can finish putting decals on it.

Quicker,

Do you have the ability to weigh it? I'm wanting to know what your all up weight is.

What electronics are you running? Esp the servos and Rx, and are you positioning them where the plans suggest?

I have a 3Dfoamy Raven depron kit on the way and I'm just curious about balancing it. The foamy I built out of sturdyboard is so heavy that I don't think even my Himax 2015-4100 will fly it well.

I'll weigh it tonight for you. My scale is only a food scale from Walmart, though.

For now, my power train is a GWS 350 with D gear, GWS 12x6 prop. ESC is the PIXIE-20P. I have a Himax 2015/4100 in a GWS D gearbox with a Phoenix 25 ESC in the mail. Maybe it will be here today. Receiver is 4 Channel GWS Pico. Servos are generic 9 gram servos. I don't have anything where the plans show. I'll take a closeup pic tonight so you can see where I have everything.

good deal, I have the same drivetrain, but I have 10 cell nimh packs instead of lipos, and the phoenix 25. I haven't gotten my charger in yet, so I can't power anything up though.

I'm using generic 18 gram servos, and a hitec electron 6 rx. I didn't order any landing gear for my kit though -- I should have thought about that. I may just hand launch and put some music wire landing skids on it.

Those are just music wire and I got the wheels at the LHS for around $3. I glued 2 1/16th ply plates on each side of the fuse and drilled holes through for the zipties to go around the wire. It holds well.

Don't mind Karl! If we all tried to make planes as nice as his, we'd all quit! :D Just joking around, Karl always puts out meticulous planes. I've been watching his work for a while, and his planes are always top notch, very good attention to detail.

I can't even...I just hand Gator a handfull of Sharpies and a beer :D :D

OK, here are some more pics of the setup:
http://www.quicker.rchomepage.com/plans/foamy/

weight is 13oz according to my walmart food scale. I used hot glue to put it together.

pics 5 - 8 are new close-ups.

I just switched out the GWS motor and brushed ESC for the Himax 2015/4100 and Pheonix 25 ESC. All of my servos work fine, and I can go into programming mode of the ESC, but I get no motor. My E-Tec 3s1p 1200 pack reads 11.84 volts. Any ideas?

I just screwed around with it some more. I started thinking maybe the connectors did not have a good connection to the wires, so I clipped all of them off and took my knife and scraped the wires to make sure they were clean and twisted everything together. Now when I power up the setup on my bench the ESC gives me the nice tones, but when I give it gas the motor just kinda jerks around and sounds like an old 4 cylinder missing on 2 of the cylinders.....

Thanks. I'll play with it some more tonight. I was up late last night getting the brushed setup back on it so I could fly this morning on the way to work. I'll see if I can push my luck and work on it again tonight. My wife said "you working on your planes AGAIN?!?!?"

Flew it this morning at a baseball field on the way in to the office. I have the CG set to 1/4 aft the spar. The spar is put exactly where it shows on the plans. I like how it is flying with the CG here. The GWS350 has plenty of power to pull out of a hover. I'm excited to see what the Himax does.

The last few weeks the only time we have no wind is between 5am and 9am. Good thing I've got an electric to fly...

If you look at my landing gear mount here:

This is working out very well. I was going to put 2 zip-ties on the top, but I decided not to to see how it would hold. On rough landings, or when I lose it in a low hover, etc., the gear will pop back, and not bend the wire or break the foam fuse. If I had put 2 zip-ties on the top it would be too solid and break the fuse. The back end of the "U" slides up, and the gear slides back. I just pick up the plane and push the gear back into position.

Thanks so much quicker, those are some really good pics. You don't normally find good info like that. I usually deal with something better visually, rather than just being told.

So my big question, does it balance on or just behind the spar without a batterypack?
