If you had $1000.....

What would you get? (R/C stuff only - no hookers or stuff... )

I'm trying to plan for when we get our bonuses next Feb and hope to have about $1k to put into the hobby. I will always have a profile in the harem, but I'm kinda wanting to get into the artistic aerobatics where I can do 3D as well as bore holes in the sky. Maybe something like the EF 68" Yak with a YS 110? Help me spend my (projected) money! :p

Well,that rules out my idea...
$1000 would almost get you the 87" yak an 50cc motor. Then all you would have to do is buy some servos....
I would get 2 Lehners
2 35a speed controllers
lotsa little servos
lotsa little rx's
Lotsnlotsnlots of Lipos

I think I'm already over the budget.......

A Razor 350
a few Cobri gearboxes
maybe a Saito 100

But....I"ll be buying a new bed.

Hmmm, lots of possibilities, but one that is sorta sticking in my head

OMP 79 inch Yak
YS 140FZ or Saito 180
Digital Servos

As good as constrictor's 65 incher flew when I saw it, the 79 incher should be a beast as well.
Extreme flight 87" yak with a 50cc gasser. Then you just have to save a little for servos.
Well this might be a little bit different than what you might expect.

Think about investing in your hanger. Such as any modeling tools you might want, electric hinge cutter, laser incidence meter, new razor saw blades, glues, hardware, props, rolls and rolls of monokote, nuts bolts screws, gallons of fuel, a better building table, pins, drills, a dremel, well you get the idea.

All of this can easily add up to $1000.00 and it does make building more fun, as well as faster, better, straighter, lighter, more well you get the idea.

if your a builder i second that idea :D
I aint' got a clue what I would buy. I've never had that much money at one time to spend on the hobby.

No offense Lom, but the one thing I wouldn't buy is that POS laser incidence meter. I borrowed one from a friend one time and I also borrowed a Robart meter as well. The Robart meter blew the GP laser meter away. The GP laser meter wouldn't repeat. I never got the same reading twice.
Well good to know I have a 2 Robart ones and I love them. I have not tried the laser IM but it sounded cool.
Give us some details....your wanting to build a plane or ARF one together?
OMP 79" bird with Saito 180 and lots of fuel.

And a Saito 82GK for my burrito.
I don't mind building, but CA allergies make it where it ain't much fun. I'm trying to finish up the OMP Katana kit and I tried using Titebond to do the build. It was definitely different from building with CA, but I think it will come out OK. Had a lot of warps in the wing, but was able to wet and clamp everything back into place.

I have the OMP 65" Yak and absolutely love it, and I'm sure the 79" one would be just as good, if not better. But I kinda want something that would serve a dual purpose - a great 3D bird that could also be competitive in IMAC, if I ever decided to try it. I've been flying for over 25 years, but only got into 3D last year. A lot of people say that if you learn to fly pattern, it will make you a better 3D pilot because of the precision you need. I couldn't bear to pay money for a full-fledged pattern ship, but something like the EF Yak or similar would sure be nice!

Joebob....I have a really bad allergy to CA too. I can't even be around the normal kind. I use foam safe CA for everything and it doesn't bother me at all. You may have tried this....just a suggestion. $$$$$
Yeah, I've used the odorless stuff in the past, but it's been harder and harder to get around here. The guy I used to buy everything from ran a LHS out of his garage and was only open 3 nights a week. He passed away last year. We have another guy that does the same thing, but he's only open on Mon, Wed, and Fri nights from 7:30 - 9. I live 35 miles away so it's hard to get there to get anything. Plus, he's out of town a lot attending contests and such, so it's even harder to get supplies.

I think I want to stick with an ARF, though, at any rate. My covering skills aren't the best in the world, and my imagination is even worse. I was looking at the 87" Yak, but there's no way I could get that one with a DA 50 for $1K. Just plane and engine will be over $1200.

Is there anything comparable to the EF 68" Yak out there? I figure I could get it, a YS 110 and some good servos and still stay within budget....

Joebob, I like your idea of the EF 68" Yak. Thats a perfect plane that you could come very close to completing within the budget. And best of all that plane, when setup properly, will fly both excellant 3D and IMAC.

Dont listen to these guys trying to get you into a 87" Yak........you'll be over budget by atleast $600 to $800 if you bought everything new for it.....and set it up atleast half way right....unless you already have a DA50 lying around.
My plane budget has been so low lately that I can't get ANYTHING without selling something else first. Right now, I'm down to my son's UCD 46, my OMP Yak, and the OMP Katana that I can't finish til I get all the hardware, servos, and covering for. Needless to say, I'm looking forward to next February!

Didn't Chris at one time have a combo deal with the Yak and YS going?
If you really need to stay right at $1000 I think the 68in yak would be hard to beat. That being said you might want to look at the Funtana as well. Its hard to beat the price on it....only $200. I personally dont have either but there a cpl of each in a local club that I can get my grubby hands on. Id say its a tosup between the two.
