My new ICharger is making me feel like a low tech ******* in a high tech world. Lol

I am having trouble getting a battery to charge at all and did some looking around on the web today. I have seen some pics that showed the battery hooked to the balance board as well as a line running from the output jack to the JST plug on the battery.

I do not have this output line and wonder if that is my problem. Do I need this line for LiFe batteries? What is the best way to make this line?

you didnt get the main leads? or your life's dont have balance leads? i dont see main leads there in the pic, make some with 4mm banana jack type plugs or if you are solder disfunctional just buy a set, or tell the place you got it from you didnt get main leads.

something like these

i like the boards like this

pic of your battery would help, but you might need this

i think stock they come with alligator clips on the end of the main lead, so you have to roll your own or buy what i said

you got yourself a nice charger there. Probably the last one you will ever need.

use the heaviest gauge you can coming out of the charger, mine is 10 gauge. 4mm bullets on the charger side, your most common plug on the other. Then you can make adapters for other stuff. For example mine has a deans, but I have an adapter that goes from deans to Jst, or deans to ec3, or deans to 5.5mm bullets.....and so on,,,,,,

You should also invest in a parallel board, with that much power you are going to be able to charge 6+ batteries fairly fast depending on their cell count and capacity.

Question for you, what are you running for a PS?

looks like spaz hooked you up on links to exactly what you need....I prefer to make my own, never have been comfortable with Chinese solder joints (nothing against VH) especially when you are cranking big power through them

That will work just fine, if it works for you then no need to upgrade....well maybe its own battery so you don't strand yourself at the field. That charger will take 24V, in fact it needs it to reach its full potential. Just keep that in mind if/when you upgrade.

every piece (almost) of electronics in you own has Chinese solder joints!

Chet-

Sorry I'm slow answering this week... Personal/family stuff moving quick around here.

I keep my Cellpro Multi4 around to quick charge the LiFe and A123 Rx packs using just the balance lead. The iCharger does need main leads connected to charge, then also connect the balance tap if it's a pack that needs it.

I've only ever used a 6-up parallel board with that charger. I've probably got a set of main leads sitting around here somewhere if you haven't already made a set.

Side note: Gus has the 12/24v power supply I used to use with that charger ... 24v from my Honda eu2000 and charging 3S/3300's 6 at a time took about 10 minutes.

Thanks for the help Bros. I will see what I can dig up for supplies to make one tomorrow.

Not to worry Case, I know you have a lot on your plate and figured that you had a different way of charging than the way I am charging at the moment. :drink:

Hope you got a great deal since it's missing the main charging leads!
You are gonna love that charger after using it a couple times. Very user friendly!

I have done 30 amps out of the 3010 with 12 awg wire for the main leads... but no JST, 5.5 bullets.

Make/get two sets of the ones you need, because no matter what, you will only be able to find one when you need them

I got an awesome deal on this charger, couldn't be happier with it. On my Eflight charger you just plug in the balancing lead and charge so I had no idea you had to have the extra charging lead to make this work. :bag:

How long is too long to make this lead pertaining to current drop?

Very interesting  I knew I was getting a good charger but every day I learn something new about it and it just amazes me what it can do.

If anyone has a pic of a good mobile setup just using one charger like this I would like to see it. the only nice setups I have seen so far have multiple chargers and that is above my head at the moment. I can go with either power supply Battery or electric.

If you're just charging small stuff, and don't camp/remote/fly for more than a day or two at a time, I had good luck with a big, heavy marine deep-cycle battery wired into a rolling toolbox with a power panel cut into the side. Once you start charging bigger flight packs, and maybe fly a few gassers in the mix, lugging the big battery around becomes a pain. If/when a generator starts to make sense, you don't technically need the $1K Honda (but it sure is nice!!!) Gus has been running iChargers from the little $80 Harbor Frwight generator for a long time... And as an added bonus, you can put a DTC or BCP on one just to be cool like Mo! ;-)

The neat thing about that charger is that it will do everything g you need now, and everything you could ever want down the road... It's nice not having to find a new "small charger" every time something new and more e :gay: comes along...

You don't have to get crazy with your case, but I would suggest getting a power supply that can handle two of those chargers and build a box, case what ever that will easily accept the second charger when the time comes. Cause it will come at some point.

Just run your car for 2-3min after a big charge round.

I was stranded at a field once with my old delta. All by myself. Getting dark and no cell service so it was walk home (20min drive) or try something.
I kid you not, I hooked my charger up to my field battery in my field box. 12v 7A batt.
Let it charge for 15min. Gave that mofo some juice and she fired up and I drove home!
It was a DEAD battery. Wouldn't even make the clicky sound when I hit te key. Just silance.
So maybe carry an extra field battery in your trunk lol

I have flown over 30 batteries in a single day with just one charger capable of six batteries at a time. I just constantly have two to four batteries on the charger through out the day. I think 2 is a luxury unless you are flying a lot of big 6s batteries.

If anyone wants to provide a free ICharger to convince me that I really do need a second one, I'll be happy to use it for 10 years and let you know what I think.

I have one 3010 and two 106's, more than plenty for the 1s 200mAh all the way up to the 10s 5000mAh setup for the big edge.
