I hate it when that happens!

Oops!
I thought I had a fairly decent handle on hovering. At least on my Burrito. I was hovering my EF Edge up close and personal today after work. It snapped around and headed at me. My only reaction was to turn away but it wasn't enough. It got me on my right arm just above the elbow. I ended up with fifteen stitches. I wished I'd had my camera with me. I'll have a nice souvenir scar though :D Maybe better back out the plane to 6 or 8 foot instead of 3-4. A few extra feet would have given me time to at least cut the throttle before impact :? I'd have went back flying but they took too long at the ER and it was dark by the time I got out :)

Put the gyros back in??? :D
Duuude... That sucks!! I've thought about that more than once..... sometimes a little gust of wind or a bad input will move the plane too close and I have to take a step back.... I feel for ya bro... Them APC props are sharp!!
My Burrito snaps around like this all the time but it generally stays vertical. This one was in a nice hover canopy to me and suddenly it snapped around and I was looking directly at the prop headed my way. I know My first instinct was to hit hit throttle and full up but I'm not sure if I actually got to either before contact. Kinda cool though in a sick ProBro kinda way :D
Matt
Sorry to hea about your acident Matt, but please keep a lid on this. The anti 3D crowd would have a hey day with this incident.

Hears to hoping your arm heals fast!
Hello.......you think this is a private forum Bryan?

The Anti-3D crowd prolly hangs out here on a regular basis.
No I know it's not but I don't think this is something to broadcast either.
It flat sucks for Matt, and I can see where it could happen to anyone. But you know as well a I do how some of the stupid ass "the sky is falling" crowd would react to this.

I mean they already think that "hoooovering" is dangerous. this is just proof. Why? Becuase he did it hovering. :D
But it could never happen to you.....not that man who hits everything!!!
Spinner man, I am not trying to argue with you here. And yes it could happen to anyone of us. We all accept the risk of flying airplanes, and I just like you stand a risk of getting hit. All I am saying is I would keep this on the DL. :D

Are you saying you would hit me?......are you threatening me?

LMAO....I hope you heal up soon as well Matt.
Matt, That sucks man! Sorry to hear it. Hope you are feeling better and your arm is OK
I too hate to hear of your misfortune. But hey, how many of those warbird guys have stuck their hand in the prop while starting it. Matt's deal is a one in a million, there have been far more accidents with non 3d related flight than with 3d related flight. And that is a fact, call the AMA. Jeff W.
It's also no big deal nor will it be reported to the AMA since they don't pay for anything unless my insurance won't. I know I'll be fully covered so AMA is out of the loop. I'll post a pic later of my handiwork! I also got back on the horse that threw me today. I wasn't hovering in my face but I was tagging some tail with it.
Matt

As for the mass hover, I was purposely keeping my Burrito out away from other flyers to avoid exactly what I did to myself. I can laugh about hurting myself this way but there's no way I would ever put someone else at risk doing this stuff up that close. I know my limitations, I just don't always heed them when I'm the only one at risk :D
Don't worry - I just about bowled the guy standing next to me on the flightline yesterday when I was bringing the club-trainer in for a landing. I'd been giving some lessons to another club member when the wind came up and it was getting pretty rought so I landed, but the wind caught the trainer and flipped it around as it was slowing down.

Damned high-wing trainer craft -- so slow to respond to controls -- they ought to be banned!
