Tips for hovering eh? Well, FF Taco is one of my favorites that's for sure. But it isn't the easiest one to learn on. You'll want to use expo, DR, and have plenty of power.

Wind (a little) is your friend. Position the plane in front of you and into the wind. Hovering at that point isn't really straight up. If it gets truely straight it'll Torqueroll. Start with short hovers, fly out when it get's weird. That's where the power comes in.

Here's the one that got me going strong: Don't try to hover at 50' Especially with something as small as the Taco. You have to be able to see the plane very well, and get to where you know what input it needs before it needs it. When you can start to get it a little, I believe you should get it right down on the deck. If you turf the Taco at 3 feet you won't do any serious damage, moslty just re-start the engine. Go ahead and ask how many times I've done that!!

Well, that's my story!

Hovering............... ARGH !!!!!!!!!!!
Even bought AFP thingie. Having the same problems there as in RL.
Getting sick of practising.
But now I know how to do a great KE !!! :D couldn't do that before.

but them hovering guys.............. nope no GREEN icon faces.
Why is it that I can do it better upside down in RL and AFP ?

Oh well, one of these days, its gonna click.

Actually, my recommendation would be to get an EPP foamy and learn with that. The only issue is that you can't practice in as much wind, but you can keep it right in front of you right off the deck and can plunk it all day long. All you'll do is break a prop every so now and then. Once you get the hang of it with the EPP you can transfer it over to the Taco. Learning to hover is all about practice - learning to work the throttle, rudder, elevator and ailerons all at the same time without really thinking about it. Burning nitro or electrons is the only way, and with an EPP plane burning electrons you spend a lot less time repairing and more time learning. Just my 2 cents.

Actually - if he hasn't learned to hover in the last 8 years (the original several posts are from 2004) then I'm not sure an EPP foamy will help him.

Hovering: pull up, add powa!

Or you could just do like tha pros over on flying giants do and replace your "snap" switch with a "hover" switch that turns on all 4 gyros at the same time. :dk:

I started out with a under powered taco up high too !, didn't get very far

Then I really lurnt to hover well with a indoor foamy, then moved into a mojo 65, had it on the deck on the first flight and never looked back !

If you good in k/e try high alpha k/a into wind, its susprisley easy to hold it still and then it's just a case of adding rudder untill your vertical

According to that Asshole Matchless (WTF does he know?) Hovering is the last maneuver to practice and learn since it combines most of the other 3D skills and maneuvers into one.

I still hover so-so but pratice other maneuvers like crashing more then hovering. :D

I have it printed it out but now I can't find the damn link to his article on learning to fly 3D. And I don't have the patience for this damn Fubar search engine here sorry.

Anyone?

Dont you know that if you want to hover you have to have gyros, very fast servos, the plane needs to be very tail heavy, it must be a giant scale and can never touch the rudder to the ground or else you need to immediately land? Airplanes aint meant to hover thats for evil helicopters that should be banned as well.... Who do these Pro Bros think they are?

What helped me more than anything was working on harriers. I had kinda quit trying to hover because I just wasn't getting it then after working on harriers I would just wind up in a hover then it started to click.
