If you look in the pics above you can see I removed the top of the fuse from the wings. I glued everything back together inside the sheeting then glued it back onto the wing itself. I did all this with medium CA......its what I had in my flight box while I was waiting outside the hobby shop door. :wink:

Then a few more pics after I got home......pieced it all back together using thin an medium CA an a little kicker to speed the process. I was going to get some 1/16 lite ply to laminate to the fuse but the LHS doesnt have any. I wanted to samwhich the TE of the wing between ply since the fuse cracked top an bottom of the wing......then run it back the fuse an cover the entire cracked area. Promblem is thats a huge crack since it runs on an angle up across the fuse an I dont have any light ply. Any of you guys have a good idea of what to do with it or do I just need to order in some ply? I thought about glassing it but im not real big on that idea.

Im thinking about leaving the wing fillets off an building new ailerons as I feel these are too small plus there so far from the fuse they dont get as much prop wash as Id like.

What do you think guys......lite ply the whole thing? Maybe resheet it with balsa?

I would stay away from ply - adds weight........ The fuse held fine with 1/16" balsa before... It should hold up fine again with just 1/16' balsa. You can just scab on some 1/16" balsa to the outside of your crack... That will offer some strength.. Just make sure to get the grain running the same way as the rest of the sheeting.

Did you get all the inner structure back inside before you scabed all the pieces together? That's important....
Good bet is the lite ply but not to much, but I have made due :)
You could;
If this is a soild sheet fuse, Cut some slots (2 or 3 should do) across the crack and inlay some spruce 1/2 (or the thickness of the fuse) x 1/8 by 8" or so On edge, If you cant get spruce you can use popcicle sticks.
Not so slick but I have done this.
Yea I pretty much got it all glued back internally....there was one small brace that I couldnt get very good if I remember right as it was right on the break but hopefully it got some ca wicked back down into it. Im all about using balsa to sheet it I just wasnt sure it would do the trick but like you said.....thats whats there now. :shock:

Check out the Flight report thread on this kat.....one sweet flying plane.
balsa will work fine as long as you scab (overlap on both ends) the joint and avoid simply replacing the cracked sheeting. if you add seams in the sheeting, you're making it weaker than it was to begin with.

I resheated over the old tonight.....Ill get some pics later. I used regular wood glue, with CA to tack it on tight till the wood glue has a chance to do its thing. Ray wants to come fly this week an I need to get the Kat back in the air. Its going to look like crap....the yellow doesnt match anything that I saw. But hopefully it still flys well an is only a few oz heavier.
Do it man!!!
:)

Who cares if she flys in a constant left-hand circle. The circle flyers will never notice. :lol:
Also....get that kid an electric --> 8)

He looks ready. Some of us fathers only have little girls.
The kid wants a heli :shock: I think he needs to start running the sticks next year, he messes around with the sim some at home though.
