sweet pic :D what foamy is that? home brew?
is the design on those engines cone to scare birds away? i always wondered about that :?
Ya spastic, I don't know what the design on the cone is for. I can find out though. And speaking of birds, turbines have to be designed to ingest birds and continue running without any adverse effects. For FAA certification they throw raw chickens into the engine. There is a video of this on the web somewhere where someone didn't let a chicken thaw, and it destroyed the engine. The foamy is a home brew. It weighs 9.8 oz, and flies great with a GWS or Himax on 2 cells. It's made of 1/8" Zepron and colored with Sharpies.

And clay_target, no you can't hand flip it, but I've got a Sullivan Dynatron that can get it done on 24volts.
OK I found out about the design on the cones. It's because with all the noise and hot air movement that ground personell in the airlines have to work around it can actually be difficult to tell if an engine is running or not. The little cone paint job makes it easy.
that was my other guess :D
nice job on the "sharpiecote"

Yep, thats the universal airline language for: "Don't put hand here"

Another interesting test is the blade loss test. A small charge is placed at the root of one of the large inlet fan blades. The engine is run to full power and the charge is remotely detonated causing one of the blade to depart at max RPM. The Engine casing and nacelle combination must be able to keep the ensuing spray of carnage contained, preventing parts leaving the engine housing at high velocity and slicing through critical systems.

Some of the testing done in the areospace field is trippy.
