Oh man Billy, can't you find another hosting outfit for this site?

I've gotten used to having to go through a proxy because the hosting outfit you're using has a way-out-of-date bogon list that refuses to acknowledge my IP number exists -- but I'm still faced with another problem.

Quite frequently, when I visit, the site will work but part-way through my reading of the new messages it stops talking.

If I come back 20 minutes later then it's talking again but all the "unread message" flags are gone because of the time delay. That means I have to manually check the last posting dates/times and try to work out if the forums and threads concerned actually have new messages :-(

Website hosting is cheap and, as I said once before, I'll even shout you year's unlimited traffic hosting if you decide you want something a little more reliable.

It's getting to the point where The ProBros forums are right down near the bottom of my "regularly visits" list now because, as a bald guy, I have very little hair left to pull out

I know I have a lot of problem from time to time getting on here too......rather disgusting. Anything we can do?

Well here is the problem that I see. Let me preface this by saying I don't know a lot about web servers and such. My understanding is that as this site grows it needs more stuff to hold it. This stuff costs $$$$, where does it come from. Well we could get sponsors. Then we will grow bigger and bigger, these sponsors will moderate what is said and talked about, feelings will get hurt, threads will be deleted, the PRO-BROS will be only about getting money, then we will have to get our own site again for the rengade renagades. See a pattern here??

Well you get what you pay for....like anything else.

I think the site is already on some less expensive hosting.

I have had a little trouble lately, nuttin that bad though. When not in school I do a little website development. I use www.esosoft.com usually. They say they dont have limits on bandwith, not sure how far that will go, but its only about 8 bucks a month. May be worth a look.

It don't cost that much. Don't let the owners of mega-sites make you believe you need $20K/month to run a site. Don't worry about sponsors, we'll scrape up the dough to have this site :wink:

That said...Is there any way we can get off this server?

I've had trouble too, a lot lately. Seems to get slower and slower. But I too recognize that BH and Quicker are pushed to the limit. Both are very busy and do a lot more than just this site.

Keep up the great work guys, as we've said many times, let us know if we can help.

Exactly ... Bandwidth is very cheap nowdays. You think Rcgroups would be giving you free hosting if it cost them much?

Oh an Chuckie it does cost 20 k a month if you like to consider it an income stream to pad your pocket with. :lol:

We have a server already...just need the time to coordinate getting the database and all this software moved over. Moving the pages and PHP code is easy. Probably only 1-2 hours of work. The big problem is the database that powers this forum. That is an export, build the schema on the new database and import, all in a timely manner that means no loss of data integrity. In short, do it without losing your posts and PM's.

I've been ignoring this problem because it gives me a headache :roll:

I've got a handfull of projects (work and R/C) I need to complete before I attempt this move. I also want a few dry-runs, so I'm playing with a 3rd server I have at work where I can try the process a few times before I do the real thing.

whatever happened to the $$ we donated for this purpose ? Is it used for that matter ? Any idea how much we collected ?
