Foamy leading edge

692 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Quicker
On my latest I used the natural fold of the bluecore for the leading edge, then cutting the bottom where the sparline would be, and I just hot glued the CF rod at that point. I think it has less pitch sensitivity, and is of course, it's stronger and handle crashes better. The LE doesn't get bunged up as easy.

Anybody else doing this?

Looks a lot like a SPA3D LE. what's the AUW. Or "what is the weight penalty?"

Any difference in the flying?
how's KE on those????? i think i'm going to build one..
I've been designing a Ultimate Bipe with the same concept, I haven't built it yet. I was thinking of doing that to an Edge 540, that I'm slowly working on.
On my cheapo walmart food scale I didn't notice a weight difference really.

As far as flying, I did notice a difference. It's not as pitch sensitive as it was before.

The KE is better now that I moved the CG closer to the sparline. I had it as far back as 2 inches, playing around, but I found it is best 1/4 to 3/4 aft the spar.

This thing flies really close to my old SPAD3D in my opinion. Harriers and hovers are awsome...flat spins too. But it won't knife and inverted flight is weird.

I also had my CG as far forward as a little in front of the spar and as far back as 2".

You think?

Yeah, I'm going to try a few things next, like a slightly smaller wing cord and a taller fuse. I love flying this thing, though.
