Evolution .46

Haven't heard much about these, so thought I'd share my experience. Got one a couple, maybe 3 months ago when I was ready to maiden a new plane ( POS Wingtote Heckler ) and couldn't get my Super Tigre G-51 to run. (Which later proved to be from trash in the carb..) I got pissed and went to the LHS for another engine! I was thinking TT Pro-.46 but asked the owner if he had any experience w/ the Evolution line.. he said they were GREAT engines, so I bought the .46 for, I think, $89.99.
This is one sweet running unit. Fired right up, by hand, right out of the box, already "broken in" by the factory. Never had a hiccup, blurble or anything but purring from it. Was a little anemic until I took the baffle out of the muffler. I don't have a tach, but it will hover my Burrito at half-throttle with an APC 11.5 x 4. Will idle so slow you wouldn't believe it, but it tends to load up unless you trim the idle to a reasonable speed. Instant transition on Omega 15% and the 11.5 x 4. Two thumbs up! :D

I'd be curious about the exhaust bolt pattern and mounting bolt pattern for interchangeability with O.S. and TT 46's and the like. I wonder if we can use the OS/TT 46 mufflers on them?

I have had several of these engines and love them. ran one on my ef edge till its eventual death The only changes I made was to get rid of the remote needle valve leeks alot of air guess if you werent as impatient as me you could silicone it up good. and get rid of all the set right easy valves. the bolt pattern is the same as an os I run a mack tuned muffler on mine for more power just get the os one. only problem I have had is that with the macks it goes through bearings a little quicker. I really like mine though. but you cant run it with the baffle in the stock muffler.

Now that I've seen a Burrito with a Saito .72 on it, I may have to tone this down some. It's a darned good engine for the price, but for only 2 1/2 times as much, you can get the .72. Or maybe even the .82.
I think I may have just hijacked my own thread :?
Update... the Evolution is back on the Burrito, still runs great. Even more power now with a Mac's muffler. Like the 12-4 APC now.
what about puttin a mousse can on this biotch? instead of a macks muffler

I know, I know, I'm late... The pattern is the same as the O.S. 46FX.

I've got one of these and am very happy with it other than it seems to oooze fuel from just about everywhere but, in all fairness it sat up for quite a while between uses. It'll hover a 6 pound Twist at 5/8ths throttle with an APC 11.5-4
Mine seems to get stronger with age. Or maybe it's the pipe. But it used to hover the Burrito at 1/2 throttle. Now it's more like 1/3. Course the Burrito may be getting lighter, too. Every time I fix it, I have pieces left over! :tu:
Aren't those evolutions kinda heavy? Did you take off that newbie crap, (the carb and needle valve stops)?
I didn't weigh mine. I did get rid of the high speed limiter. There's a small split pin that needs to be yanked out of the needle and a collar held on by a set screw. No sweat. The idle needle limiter is held on with a set screw and is easily removed but, I left mine on after re-adjusting it to the proper setting.

There is this neat little pin on it the goes through to needle so now I can adjust the low end with no tools! I just use my finger to rotate it! I've done it while it's running but, watch that prop!

Just under 17 oz. About average. I still got the newbie crap, but it doesn't do anything on the high speed, just bent the tang out of the way and slipped a piece of fuel tubing over it. Still use the one on the low speed... as lean as it will go is perfect!
I took all the preset junk off mine... all you have to do is pull out a pin or two and you can spin the needle as much as you want, I also took out the baffle and ran it on 20% wildcat. On a 12.25x3.34 i could hover my 6 somthin pound trainer just above half throttle. The bolt patern is the same as a 46fx and a GMS 47 cause i have a tuned macs pipe that fits the evolution and the GMS.

I like mine.. Oh mines the Trainer Power system that comes with the Alpha trainer but its like the same engine.
So you call the Sledge, yer trainer? Man am I behind
