Doing a clean wall

1242 Views 11 Replies 8 Participants Last post by  Gordo
Hello, I am flying a Burrito atm (kicks all sorts of ass, btw) and I am having trouble getting a good wall. My left wing dips when I hit the ele. Would any kind of mixing help this? I havent laterally balanced my plane yet, its on the list before I fly next. But in case this isnt the reason for the left wing dip, anyone have a suggestion?

thanks!

Are you using strictly elevator? or any mixes all ready?
It could definately be a lateral balance issue. Or it could be a trim problem (elevator halves not perfectly aligned, slightly twisted wing?). Try one inverted. If the other wing drops (remember because your inverted it will be the same side :D ) then you can rule out lateral balance and start looking for some sort of aerodynamic problem (maybe even one of the ones mentioned above).
I am going to try laterally balancing my burrito and switching on the flap mix with the ele. Hope this works.

Would a too aft CG be a reason for dropping a wing?

Just bought a ChinaKatana (40 profile) on ebay. Think it will wall? hard to hover down low when u cant wall into it.
You might try adding just a *touch* of right rudder as you jab full up elevator. Just a tiny bit though, you don't want it to snap. You could also try varying entry speed, and varying how much elevator input you use.

Just do a Harrier and then go the hover.

I agree with Bill, just slow it down and start rolling on throttle and up elevator together, learn to work it through a harrier into a hover.

Walling into a good steady hover is not as easy, takes split second throttle management not to go climbing or start dropping out.
You might want to make sure your not bumping in a slight amount of aileron when you enter the wall. That can mess things up as well.
havent flown it yet (nephews in town) but I went to balance it and it was SICK left heavy. like 2 ounces of lead in the left wing tip heavy. I just relocated the battery to the other side of the fuse and it now balances.
Bah! it wasnt the lateral CG at all. It was just too stinking tail heavy! I took out some tail weight at Texarkana and I had a new plane. 30 minutes later I did my first #9. Made all the difference.
There you go......Was great hanging with you guys in Texarkana, hope to see you in Nashville!!!!
