...thinking about selling all my glow shtuff and do only electrics and the big gasser ! That e-bug is a bad biter. After seeing and flying all those kick azz electrics out there I have been playing more and more with this idea. Chuck's little electrics are just too bad azz as well as my Spidey (RIP  ) was. Has anybody else been playing with these evil temptations ? I think I might gotta have to go that route.

Yes, I have been. After flying the snot out of my 36 inch eKatana on that Lehner 1020 I've got the bug BAD. I've got an AXI 4120 now from Hobby Lobby That I'm going to start a 48 inch project with and I've got another motor comming for another 36 inch plane.

Once you get going in the E stuff it is VERY addicting. Nothing like taking a bigger e plane into the field behind my house and flying. No way could I do that with a glow plane.

I don't know if I'll be able to totally drop nitro, though.
Ulf, wait til you see what your old Hacker will do on 5S Lipo power on a plane about a pound lighter than Spidey.

This one is gonna rock.

yep, that is exactly my point. It's just too bad azz. Plus I can fly the electrics right at a Church's soccer field by my house.
Those evil thoughts have completely taken over my brain. I only care about E birds now. Nothing else matters. The only way to control my brain....is to destroy it. With beer.
Hey Ulf,
Don't worry, after a month or 4 of waiting on a motor that will never come in you will return to the dark side!!
Just ask Chuck!

Sorry Auger, I couldn't resist..

If you are going to sell some stuff off be sure to post here first. I'm sure there are a lot of ppl like me who need this and that but can't afford to just go out and buy new..
Here here! :drink:

If it wasn't for electrics, I wouldn't have gotten back into the hobby. Then I found out what was happening with 3D and it's all over, baby.

My thinking is thus. I don't have a whole lot of time. There are 4 parks within 5 minutes of my house where I can fly electrics, and even when it's on the breezy side, one park is in a bowl, with plenty of large trees around for a wind block. I've flown there with an Aerobird with safe wind coverage to 150' when the winds were gusting to 20 mph.

Second thing is, I really have zero tolerance for political BS that goes with joining a club. I know there's 3 clubs with very nice fields within 30-45 minutes from my house, but I just don't want to deal with anyone saying I can't fly the way I want to fly.

The way I see it, I can leave my place and burn through a pack before I could even get to a club field, not even factoring in waiting for a pin, then putting up with a bunch of bs and club politics.

Also cuts down on the witnesses when you dumb-thumb and auger it in :)

Guess I'm just anti-social at heart, unless I get to hang with some bros.

Only downside I'm having is getting past thinking of electrics as toys, and not real planes. And after growing up smelling glow fumes, there's a rush I still get from glow exhaust. :)

Lately, I have been thinking like that a lot as well, but I don't think I could ever go that way completely. I work for one of the worlds largest engine companies and have spent my life dealing with pistons, rings and crankshafts.... I alternately bleed castor and 10w40...

However, lately I have found myself having 'all glow days', and 'all electric days'.... Sometimes, I'll go to the field with a small box full of charged packs and my charger and just burn through them. No starters, fuel, pape towels and cleaner etc. Just planes, trannies and battrees.
And other days, I find myself leaving the electrics at home. I come home smelling like burnt castor and love every minute of it.
I know what you mean...there is something about flying where-ever, and whenever you want ...and at 7:00am when there is no one else around but the birds...

yep, have tried to kill my brain with beer for quite some time. According to my wife it's working pretty good but I can't really feel the effects yet. Maybe it's because drinking beer is my other hobby. :p

Well, will make sure and post all the shtuff I will have for sale here first before taking them to the hobby shop or swap meet. I am sure some of you guys will have use for some engines, planes, starters, ignitors, etc.
Sure will hate to see everything go but buying all the electric stuff will make up for it :D . After all, I am still keeping my BIG Yak which runs on gas
Ive been having similiar quanderies....I just like all aspects of the hobby to much, electric glow, gas 3D pattern etc. If I just had the money
Ulf you could just donate all your glow stuff to Kyle you know he would take good care of it.
It's an intriguing thought, we all probably wonder when it will happen to us.

For me, two things come to mind that would stop me.

One, I really don't care to build a lot. Chuck has proven beyond arguement that to get the REAL DEAL, great building skills and time/patience are required. There are ARFs that could be Electrified but I don't think it's worth it.

Second, I just LOVE engines, especially engines that run well and sound good. I love my Saitos, the power, the sound. Other engines are great too. I just love the parts and the way they work.

But I totally get why you would want to....
I was talking to an owner of a hobby shop. Remember years ago.... Hardly any ARF's. And if you bought one, most likely it was a POS. There were MORE kits than ARF's. Probally like 100 kits to an ARF-in-a-box.

now in a hobby shop? how things have changed. This one hobby shops now sells ARFS, 10 to 1, against kits. The quality is better too.

and so it will be with electrics. As all of you have said. Just grab it and go. Clubs will have a hard time maintaining their memberships. Just too easy to fly at a local big yard or field, rather than "Load up and go fly at the club field", an all day task (like a chore sometimes).

Speaking personally, my big gas 8 foot profile only flew 3 or 4 times this year. I have one BIG glow that only flew once this year. I'll still have Glo. That damn Burrito of mine has completely changed things. I'll still have one gasser. Gonna get rid of all my circle-flying gas/glow shit, and go with profiles. But the fact is, like many of you, I flew more with my little ol electric than anyting else I have.

However you all may say what you want about clubs and their fields. Would you be here NOW, if it wasn't for a club somewhere?

Would you be here NOW in the Profile Brotherhood, if it wasn't for a club somewhere? The fact that a club had a "bad apple" that got to ya, isn't really important. Sure some of you don't need the "social" aspect of it. But those of us, who took the time to go to Nashville, definitely went for the "social" aspect of it, otherwise why did we go? Don't get me wrong, there must have been 20 or 30 electrics there, myself included. (as well as over 100 glow's)

I think the "foamy" revolution is great. The technology in motors and batteries in just the last couple of years..... is unbelieveable. The way it helps us all to learn to be "fearless" with aerobatics is great.

anyways........ here's my point. Its going to increase the "isolation" factor. You won't (or might not) see a Pro-Bro doing his thing. A pilot like me might never have gotten involved, if I hadn't run into a Pro-Bro. (In this example, its Mike Bogh) If it wasn't for him, I'd never heard of you guys. (and HE hardly ever comes in here and post.). I'd never have gotten involved, never have gone to Nash...........

Still don't get the point??? OK, here it is. Like clubs, we are now a dying breed. If we are not "out there" spreading the word..... our numbers will get smaller over time. Just the internet ain't gonna do it. Magazines?? I don't think so. Some of you laugh at the so-called 3D writeups.

Now go ahead and tell me I'm fulla shit.

You Guys are FRIKIN NUTS... Sure E power is cool for an alternative but to completly replace GLOW... Not me....
I don't think you're full of shit. I went to a fly in Saturday, mostly circle flyers, and flew electrics. I invited a guy that lived farther away from the fly in than me to come, he had an Ultimate foamy that he was not to pleased with (I hooked up with him in a thread by Mike Bogh on RCGroups), I told him I'd show him what foam could do.

Well, he was amazed at the difference between a H9 Ultimate and a ChuckFlyer, but he was also amazed at my balsa electric planes. He came away with a lot better understanding about electrics, realized it wasn't something he was doing wrong.

Me and OverSpray were the only Bros there, both sportin' colors. We got bitched at for flying foamys behind the flightline (we went to the helicopter area so we wouldn't infringe on the circle flyers..)

I like the convienience of taking a foamy to the school yard right quick, but I also like to go and hang out with friends. I gave my Stano painted ChuckFlyer to an old friend at the field, he has some acerage and wanted a plane to fly in the short times we get around here between wind storms.

So being an electric flyer doesn't make you anti-social, or a sociopath.

You're full of shit........well, you said to say it....

But I actually agree. I love the club, the field, the "whole day" thing. And I also love the park around the corner with my foamie. One doesn't replace the other IMO. But that's me.
DanHoH:

You have some interesting points, and I think you are right on a lot of them. Due to time issues, I spend most of my time flying solo during lunch. At least I'm flying, but it's not near as much fun as when I get to fly with other people. I think E will draw in new pilots, but how many will stick it out without a club or support? Not many. You will see a lot of turnover.

I can't see the distinction. I can fly all day with electric planes just like I can with glow. I can't see how they are mutually exclusive..
