Just pulled the trigger on a 3520 790kv Bad Ass motor for my primo 40. Wanted to make a thread where bro’s could share their experience and thoughts with this brand. Over time that is of course. I’ve been waiting over a year for the Motrolfly to be back in stock and it never happened. I’ve slung magnets on a couple of G32s now and ready to see what this brand is all about 🤘

Jrr from Iowa had one I flew last year in a 40 sized rad yak. BA3520-560kv on 6s and a wood 14x7 prop. I was SUPER impressed with not only the power but the responsiveness. I normally run tomcat g32 on 4s with a 15x6apc. It runs 1100+ watts on McDDDs watt meter and far exceeds any motrolfly I've had (about 6 different sized and kv) or any other 6s setup I've tried. I'm definitely going to switch to the bad ass motors in the future until I have problems with them.

Wow, that’s a great report!

I wish I would have put a watt meter on it. I haven't looked them up to see what the advertised output is yet.

And like Mike McFarland, I too am interested in what they have to offer for a 60 sized profile on 8s. I have a sbach 65 on electric now and not impressed with the power, but I'm tired of fighting with my saito 150 and my dle20 on my other 60 sized planes

I think that kinda depends. A 60 size profile like a Mojo or Primo 60 is typically a 55 inch wingspan. Some designers name their planes according to wing span instead of engine size. Thus a 65 would be a much larger airframe. It seems like most 60 “engine” size profiles I’ve seen are ran on 6s .. looking at the propeller data sheet, it looks like this motor would make 2000-2500 watts on 8s for a 65 inch bird if that’s enough power for the weight of your plane. Not speaking from experience, just going off the claimed motor data

I've been running the 3520 560kv on my 50" GBR R3 with a 15x6 APC--pulls about 50A and is excellent power on that 5lb RTF plane. On a 4.5lb 40-size, it would be ballistic! Mine is now going on a Jeide-built Stix50; will have it at Iowa if ya wanna pull :)

Mounted the Bad Ass 3520 today. Decided to try it on a Mojo 40 first. Being that the motor is 790kv, I tried a Xoar 14x8 on it first. At burst on the watt meter it jumped a little over 1400 watts at around 95 amps.. obviously I’ll have to go down in prop a little. I’m thinking 14x6 possibly?. I was pretty surprised with these results because my Rimfire power 32 800kv only makes roughly 1000 watts @70 amps with the 14x8. Going to order a couple props and hopefully be ripping it soon! The max continues current recommended for this motor is 1040 watts. Obviously on a slab it will only be short bursts. What do y’all think a good max watt target would be when selecting a prop?

I have a MotrolFly 3615 850kv . I had it custom wound by subsonic years ago so I know the KV is accurate cause it was tested . I used to use a 15x6 Xoar on it . Found a 14x7 APC to be a perfect prop for it even though I have never liked that prop on anything else . Dont think I ever hit 1400 watts with it on either setup . Wonder if efficiency is the difference or if the KV isnt accurate . I do own two BadAss motors but not in a 3d plane . Ones a 3530-890 in a advanced trainer and the other I havent tried yet 2814-1300 in a Defiant 42 wing .

It's efficiency. Look at how perfect the windings are and compare that to your average chingmotor.

Maidened my Stix50/BadAss 3520 560kv combo yesterday. Two 3S 3300 in series on a 15x6 APC. Pulls 50A and about 1150W. Power is really good on this 5lb6oz RTF plane. I could prop up a bit I suppose, but I have no need right now. Hoping to get a bunch more flights on it this weekend at IowaBro :)

That Jeide builds light! 5LB 6 oz is a great weight.
All 3 of my 50" TriFlyer birds were built by TriFlyer and my GBR is 5 lb 8 oz.
And my Chimera and Sbach 50 are both 5lb 11 oz RTF.

not sure about others but I would say the 3520 790kv. I tried a 14x8 initially but it was a little too much prop making 1400 watts drawing 95amps. Waiting on a 14x6 and 14x7 now to do some more testing. I’d really like to see around 1100 watts burst. It’s on a mojo 40
