Anybody? Anybody at all?

I made my first post yesterday asking how the OMP yak compared to the katana. I have been checking in on and off all day. There has been plenty of posts replies to other threads (piss on rcu decal, WTF thread, favorite music) Does ANYBODY have an opinion on this not too popular topic of planes?

I woulda, but never had the yak; have flown/built several stock/modified omp 540's, though. They don't make a bad plane, but since I had no experience with the yak, could not give an opinion on it. but the 540 and the burrito are my 2 favorite profiles. I liked both so much I scratch built an edgy burrito; a little bit of both... :D
Yeah, I don't think people are blowing you off, I just honestly have not heard about many guys with the smaller Yak....and only a couple with the kit-built Katana.

I will say....If the little Yak flys anything like the bigger one, it will be sweet. But, I've heard nary a discouraging word on the Katana, either.

Better just buy 'em both and let us know how you like 'em! :D
Dude Chill out!!! Sometimes it takes a bit to find someone who has flown both and is willing to make a statement comparing them....

I have flown them both and they are just different airplanes- Both good in their own ways... The KitKatana is more capable and I personally think a better build, but the Yak is a little more stable and floaty. I don't think you'd go wrong with either, but I would lean toward the Katana if you really want to wring it out. If you are newer to the game, go with the Yak.....

I hope this helps ya out....and let us know what you pick :D
Thanks machless. Don't need to chill here I'm always under control. I tried something, it didn't work, so I tried a different approach. Three replies in 10 minutes. I'd say that's pretty good  I'm going with the katana then. Thank you. Now you can get back to your favorite ice cream thread. :D
If your'e always in control then you're a better man than me! Haha. My favorite ice cream.... Mint Chocolate Chip... :D

I think you will like the Katana a lot.
David, i saw your thread but I didn't answer beacuse i only have the Katana kit version and have never flown the little Yak, so I can't compare. Would you rather have someone just start posting opinion and hot air? You can get that at RCU. Just like Auger mentioned, you asked a question for which we may not be able to answer.
I saw your post and wanted to help, and I have both planes mentioned. Problem is they are both still in the friggen box. Here's what we will do. I will send them to you, with stuff to finish them. You build them, (and you better do a good job) and fly them 3 times each. Then send them back to me slightly used. 3 flights should be enough for you to make a good judment on which you like. Sound fair??? :D

If your going to hang with the bros, you better get used to a little BS, now and again!

Yak has a foam fuse, and the KAT is built up if it makes any difference to you.
Oh, and I like cookies and cream.
I just got my Katana in, but I havnt started building it yet. Ive checked out the CD and so far it looks like an easier build then the 540P (If you can believe it). I saw your post, but I dont have any experiance with either one yet. Oh, and Who dosnt like Cookie Dough Ice cream?!
Thanks to all who replied. I apologize if I came across as being a little impatient. I thought the 47" yak had been around for a long time. I just need to get something together quick. I don't want to go back to the goldberg extreme edge 540 after flying a real profile for the better part of the summer. I ordered the yak but it looks like the OMP office will be closed for a while (until Tuesday) I'll post pics as I go along. If you don't see a final product it's because my covering isn't the best.
Butter pecan ice cream for me.

WOW...that bipolar medication works pretty fast these days!

Moo-llenium Crunch biatch!!
If I can wade through all of these partially finished kits, the small Yak might be my next 40 size profile. I'm anxious to hear how you think it is.

As for your question, if you ask the Bros to compare two somethings, most will wait for someone with head to head experience. Maybe next time say something like, "I'm thinking about plane X and Y, does anyone know anything about either?" That will get you responses galore. Also, you are choosing between two fairly new planes. You might just be the pioneer the next guy is looking for.

Keep us up to date,

Fried ice cream

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......
Hey David,
I've got an update for you. I started the construction on my Katana yesterday. I ended up almost finishing the fuse last night. I started at about 3:00 and stopped at about 8:30. So In five and half hours, I almost finished the fuse. All I have left to do is sheet the other side and sand it. In my opinion, this is one of the easiest kits I've put together. The laser cut parts make is easy to shape and put together. I really like the fact that I didn't have to make about 8 cuts to shape the canopy. Ill let you know when I get the wings done. Ill post a few pics too if you want...

I just got mine too. It looks like a pretty easy build. I've got another plane on the building board right now. I'll start on the yak as soon as I get this other one finished. I'm almost done. I'd like to have the Yak finished in a month.
