The latest AMA rag hit my front steps yesterday. In thumbing through it I noticed not one article or mention of 3D was there. Did I miss it? If not, how much longer can they ignor what might possibly be the biggest growing section of rc flying? Any thoughts anyone?

Think that's bad. I have an RCM subscription. Talk about totally stuck in the 70's and 80's! You don't even see any decent electric stuff. All the electric planes they talk about are the old fashioned floating slowflyers. I glance through it, throw it away, then go buy a Fly RC at the local Super Walmart.

No I didn't pay of the subscription...it was a gift.

No magazine can even compete with the internet nowadays. Every bit of information I could want or need is found in the online forums and their associated partners.

What would be the odds of another organization starting up similar to AMA that stays up with the times? I personally dont have a problem with free flight ole timer planes, but there should allways be room for the new things. I think 3D is here to stay and the AMA is going to have to get with the times in order to survive.

Regardless of what mags put in their articles, the number of advertisements that are 3D related can't be ignored. They didn't drop all the ads too did they? That would really hurt their profits...

Support the non evil Dave for president!!!!(gotta specify which Dave :D )

Yep, they are not keeping up!!! I wish there was a clearing house for RC statistics. If we could show the #s from the manufacturers as to how many are selling 3D stuff, and a survey of how many fliers are 3D'n, we could wake them up. Further more, and most important, how many NEW pilots are getting into 3D!!!!!! This hobby will live and die according to the trends of the new blood.

And I'll ga-run-tee you in 5 years there will be more electrics than glow, and more independent flyers than AMA flyers. And I think 1/2 or more will be into 3D! So if the AMA shuns 3D (even if the outright attacks stop) and ignores serious electrics stuff, how can they expect to keep the edge?

Don't look for annother organization any time soon. From what I see, UMA is a joke. And the only serious competition the AMA ever faced was the SFA, which the AMA sued into oblivion!! If you wonder why there aren't 10 other organizations, try this: Go to your insurance agent, tell him what you do, and ask him to write a liability policy for your club. Have some ear plugs handy 'cause the laughter will be that loud!

Finally, as to mags, they are run by (Sorry to insult anyone) old guys. They are written for old guys. And the are selling advertising to old guys. Why? Old guys have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$. We are getting a bit more power in that area, but trust me, until the $$$$$ adds up, they will still have the focus on what the young guys did 20 years ago. If the new 3D mag works out that may change things. But then I HAVEN'T GOT MY COPY!!!!!!!!

OK, I'll shut up now, well for a bit anyway....

I havent gotten my 3d mag in the mail either. Maybe it will come soon. How did the SFA end up going under? Hey Gordo, what do I need to do to help us out? I have quite a few buds that are going 3d too. One is a giant Battery head. He owns his own business testing batteries. He has been flying the LI Poly for quite awhile. Way before the regular fliers did. All he flies is Electric. He gets all the cool stuff!!!
