My Afp suddenly stopped recognizing my dongle.....with the results it wont load up. The other day I was having trouble with it too......everything would load up fine until you clicked fly...then it would just lock up. Deleted an reloaded it an it worked fine.....now this....Any clue what the trouble is?

I gotta say that was my response too!!!

But seriously, I quit useing AFP for the same reason, but I believe it's my computer, not the program. I'm on the hairy edge of the system requirements and my system locks up now and then anyway.

There is a patch on the OMP site, but I didn't see what it was supposed to do. You might look into that.

Edit: I will have an updated system to use AFP on this winter, it is the best IMO.
My systems fine....AMD 3000 512MBsdram 160gb HD....geforce 5400 video card...which has 128 mb of memory I believe. Ive been using it for close to 6 months now... :x
Yeah, you're driving a Corvette, I'm driveing the old style VW beetele.

Well before that I had a 1200 AMD but it kinda sucked....just kinda a hodge podge build that I had....didnt last long.....an before that I had a 300 mhz pentium I think.
Well I guess the planets relaligned themselves or something.....stupid thing works fine now. :D
i find that the slightest tug on your "dongle" can lossen that connection with the phonojack and it will act funny or not at all :D

Guess that means if you quit your yanking the sim will work....

Sorta confused on your problem. If you can get as far as hitting the fly button, then it's not your Interface cable, because that means it recognized the cable.

The problem could be the plane it's trying to load. When the game starts it tells you that it's loading a plane, then scenery. If the plane that it's trying to load, which would be the last plane you chose, was a downloaded plane, delete it from the aircraft directory then try again.

Also did you install the latest patch? If you didn't you must.

Also if you do an uninstall from START-PROGRAMS-AEROFLY PRO-UNINSTALL you must also go in a delete the c:\prog files\IPACS directory as well before you try to re-install the program. That is a must.

Also a MUST is you must install Disc 1, Expansion Pack and Patch in that exact order. If you install the Patch before the Expansion Pack, the Expansion Pack will overwrite the Patch files, which in turn overwrites the update.

Try that ...

So what is the patch for Dion?
G
The patch is just like any other software patch. As newer and upgraded OS's, new video cards, new video compression protocols etc. come on the market software must be updated.

It's more crucial for high end, high physics and graphic rich progs like AFP to have updated patches.

I've said this before in other forums. AFP was released before it's time 2 years ago before the high end video cards were avaiable at a reasonable retail price. Since then dozens of new cards and protocols have been released making the program become more state of the art for the "typical" new computer of 2004, hence the patch.

This is why AFP is becoming more popular now then ever. It is able to run on a late model computer of today instead of 2 years from now. 2 years ago only the highest of the high end computers could run it.

The patch does not have any new fluff, however it needs to be installed, especially if you have XP. The orginial AFP was written on Win 98 platform. I've seen computers jump from 20 FPS to 200 FPS just by installing the patch. I've seen blue screen of death go to up and running just fine from just installing the patch.

I had two different problems first one was it would all load untill I hit the fly button .....then it would freese....I deleted an reloaded the prog an all worked fine.

Then the other day it suddenly wouldnt load because it couldnt read the dongle. Checked all the connections etc..... but suddenly started working later the same day.

I have the update patch as well. Ive been using it for about 6 months now I guess. Currently its working like a charm.
Give you dongle a slight tug and what happens?
G
If you think the Interface is defective Ikarus will replace it for free no matter if you bought it off us or anywhere else.

It could also be your dongle, make sure you inspect your dongle very closely.

If you get a really strong magnifying glass and some tweezers you should be ok with it....

Dion is there any way I can buy a new cable mine had proble with a short in the cable so a friend re soldered for me but is messing up again sp i think it would be better to just buy a new one. but first I have to figure out why every time I try to use it I get to the screen where to pick the plane and it says that it can't find an open gl graphics card. any ideas. thanks alot.

If you think you Interface/Dongle cable is defective, you may have it replaced at no charge.

Call 239-690-0003 and ask for Frank. Tell him you already talked to Dion and he confirmed it was defective. He will replace it. It will work very quickly if you tell him that. Don't even worry about the fact you tried to fix it.
