Sketer-40 V3

Well, the house hunting has ended without us finding anything so I went shop shopping today because we will be in this house a few more years.

I talked with a builder today because the price I was quoted on a portable building seemed a bit high. I can get the price down a good amount by doing the insulation myself instead of them doing spray foam. I also looked at our neighbors with a couple builders to see what they can do. It's not complicated and I unfortunately just don't have the time to build it myself.

Speaking of the neighbors, I may go look at theirs with them again tomorrow to see what they did for the foundation. I thought they had put it on a pad but maybe not.

Just weighing my options before I spend any money to make sure it's the right move for me.

Bought wife a super she shed, one pre built on skids with alum sides,12x32,bit over 6,000. Would not take long to add insulation and lights. All she will do is fill with stuff, slowly, from house. Would have been great annex to plane shop, but i dont be that brave, plus shes been very good. For our hobby, hard to beat the size and price, just make sure its made of 2x4 or better,2x6 in roof, for hanging like CAPTHIS.

Yes sir, that is the plan. They want $550 to install 4 outlets, breaker box, and a light switch. I figure since I need to get an electrician out to hook up to the house and all, I'll just give them that money so I can have a couple banks of fluorescent or LED lights.

I priced out insulation and osb or plywood for the walls and that would be about another $1,000+/-.

The buildings are quality and made with 2x4 for framing so I think I may give it a go but will see what the custom builder can come up with. A proper foundation would be nice and framing wouldn't take those guys very long.

If this is only a plane shop,3/4 treated ply for floor is fine, been in mine 30 years. osb on walls ok,sheetrock better, ant got to be finished, just tape and paint. Will need more plugs and led strip lights. Plus air cooler and heat, dont know what size you plan, but bigger is better, plus one end for wife junk. I put steel post in concrete on corners to lock down for wind. 12x32 seems large but if can,you will thank me,if you plan to build for 10 more years. OH,fiberglass batts easy, dirty but easy. 4ft door,2 windows, dog gone,if i did not have 2 shops,i would build me one. Can a man have to much shop, nope.

Yep, I plan to wire for 220V as well so I can have cool air and heat. My last shop had osb on walls and I just painted it. Looking at a 10x20 cabin utility since that fits in the spot with suggested safety margin for the kids swing. If I go custom built, it will be a 12x16 because I can maintain that same safety margin.

Pics are from when completed and I moved things around.

They look nice, any money to be saved by wood floor prebuilt. Big is better, looks like your pushed for space now,but if you are giving that up to wife, both of you win. Thats a bit smaller than i thought,240 sq ft,so wont need as much power and lights. 8,000 btu to cool, gets hot there, plug in heater to heat,if insulated, save some money. 30amp 110 be fine, save more money. Not trying to be pain, hope i helped. 4 led 40watt all you need. plus xm radio. Sheet rock gives extra r4,plus better light.

If you wait for a sale at the big box home centers, you can get LED shop lights for $10 each.
I loaded up on 7000 lumen lights for $9.98 a year ago. A steal deal.

Ebay, lampbay i think,20.00 for 5ft 40watt led will brighten your day. If you need bit more power,no 10 4wire,30amp 220 not much more,be plenty. Every one likes new shop, keep us updated.

A couple renderings from the suppliers website of what I'm going for. For the vent I'll probably take a piece of plywood cut to fit on the opening on the inside, paint it, secure it with screws, and then caulk around the edges on the outside to keep moisture out.

Shop ordered and paid for yesterday. I went with a 12x20 and we're going to put it in a different part of the yard because of required clearance from my kids swing set and HOA C&Rs.

I've also been playing with the RadioMaster TX16S a little bit. Man that thing is going to take a little while to learn.

I'm just starting to get my head wrapped around the programming. It's beginning to make sense and can be amazingly powerful. I was trying to add some expo the other day and there is more than one place to do it. Had me confused until I watched as video and realized I was using the wrong one.

I think I'm going to be flying my TH Edge 540 V2 all summer lol.

But it's better than waiting on my 14SG. I can't get anything out of Futaba about an ETA and I'm tired of not flying.
