Sketer-40 V3

The main job tonight was to create a firewall for my motor. I used a piece of Lite Ply from my Cadence Pattern kit as the source material and cut out a 46mm square piece of the material. I used another rounded corner on that material to set the radius on the three other corners of the firewall.

From there I used a 3/8" bit to open up the center for the shaft that exits the rear of the motor and then marked where to drill for the X-mount.

Should I use wood screws or bolts and nuts to attach the motor?

I'm thinking some 6-32, 8-32, or a metric size near that for short bolts with lock nuts or even blind nuts but thought I would ask.

After that I filled in a few spots with balsa filler and then relaxed and read. I also ordered some Hitec HS-85MGs to go in this and I'll probably order a HobbyWing SkyWalker 60A ESC later instead of using the ZTW I had planned on.

I went and looked at the prices on the HobbyWing FlyFun V5 and Platinum 60A ESC's and I'll probably go that route. I like being able to use my programmer to make adjustments so I won't have to carry my old laptop to the field.

I just got a Radiomaster TX16S and so far I love it. Feels a lot nicer than I thought it would, given the price. The big color screen is nice, and easy to see. So many cool features it's hard to describe them all. Built in spectrum analyzer. OpenTX isn't that hard once you understand how the channels work. There's even a couple of wizards that basically set the plane up for you. Took me probably 20 minutes to get my giant stick with flaps set up.

Love the multiprotocol capability. I was able to bind it to my Futaba SHFSS receiver easily, and also a FrSky delta 8 in FrSky mode.

Servos finally arrived yesterday and I did some sanding of spots I filled in. I had an extended guest due to the weather so I'm hoping to pick up some tack cloth and star laying down some covering.

I've been swamped with work unfortunately and haven't had time to touch the Skeeter.

We put in an offer on a house last week. No shop but an office area that the wife and I can split. My goal is to finish up the Skeeter before we start moving or at least get it covered.

I'll get to deal with another round of baby-proofing and getting the new house setup for a while but I plan to get on some kits as soon as I can.

It'll be a year to 18 months at least before we pull the trigger, but the tentative plan is put up building big enough for a walled off and climate controlled workshop and storage. I have two young boys and my dad has boats he doesn't use so I may see about storing the Ranger for him

so is this a kit from me? With the carbon tubes? This is a great bird if it is.
I have a sweet motor battery setup on mine that flys for ever and is a power slut! I will have to look to remember since it has been so long since I flew it. I believe it is a 4 cell setup.

Ohh! hey do your future self a big favor.

take some really large balsa triangles and glue them behind the motor mount on each side to give that motor mount more support. or shape a block and glue it in like this.

Mean ol big GBR was so jealous of how long the 40 could fly and how fast on one battery that when it was taxiing into the pit that mean ol the big GBR gobbled up the Rudder a little bit.

Little bit of work on the Skeeter tonight. I put in some balsa to box in for the aileron servos. After reviewing the plans I noticed that I was supposed to box in the same area for radio gear. I'll work on the top sheeting tomorrow but went ahead and did the back side of the area as well. I plan to run the reciever outside of the wing and mounted to the side of the fuse so maybe I'll just omit it. I did want to have some holes to run the wires out of at least.
