is easy to lay a pen on table, run surface along it, making centerline- just hold pen at the right angle to hit center. then plane/sand bevel. quick, easy, and a lot cheaper than buying tristock.
i never tristock hingelines, since like 15 years ago. i've also made several tristock cutters, make 2 pieces ply spaced with 1/4 balsa. square 1/4 hole in center. tap a blade in at an angle from corner to corner of hole, tack with thin c.a. works ok, but you got to use soft balsa.
you can also use a piece of ply several inches long with 2 pieces tristock glued to a centerline on it, creating a jig that will hold 1/4" square at a diamond angle. clamp to scroll saw almost touching blade, hold balsa down with one hand, feed slowly with other. that works well, even with hard stuff. if you use lke 1/2" tristock you can make fairly large stuff. 1" no problem.
side note, i use a jig like that with a hole drilled in centerline as a drill jig for hinge points. drill slow, it'll center hole exactly on the edge of the beveled surface.

No matter how wrong they are.
