EVO Cap 50" Pre-order

EVO Cap 50" Pre-order

PostPosted: Wed May 07, 2014 1:50 pm

After two years of development, its finally here: the EVO cap 50 is going to production! This run is for full kits.

If you haven't seen them yet, here's some videos of the first prototype flying:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vwESfODvClE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a7GRpu0Lle8

Features:

-Double laminated carbon fiber spars
-Custom fiberglass control horns
-Lighter and stiffer .500 carbon fiber fuse tube
-Lightweight laminated motor mount set up for both nitro and electric
-EVO series balsa sandwich fuse for maximum strength and light weight
-Full digital instruction set

You will need the usual hardware minus control horns. That means pushrods, landing gear, tail wheel, etc.

To order, visit http://www.texas-hobbies.com/?page_id=612 and run through the order. Paypal is my payment processor but you can order using a credit card if you do not have a paypal account. Cost for kits will be $150 + shipping.

I will run pre-orders for the next few weeks until they slow significantly down. Exact production time will be determined by how quickly the raw supplies are shipped for cutting. Expect two to three weeks after pre-orders are closed for kits to be made and shipped.

Pre-orders will end on of before May 19th. Expect kits several weeks after that depending on how long wood and other suppliers take to ship materials.

Hop on to my site and put an order through and I'll get you taken care of. Right now it automatically adds shipping but put in the notes that you're local and I'll refund the shipping back to you and give yours to you in person.

From what I've seen of your flying in video contests it would suit you better than the cap. They will come soon enough. Now that the caps are in production I can focus on making the same updates to the edge that the cap received. I'd love to have them both in production for Nash.

I'll take one, but I hesitate to pay $150 today when I don't know how long the pre-order time period will be and then there is another 2 - 3 weeks after that. May I respectfully suggest a firm time frame be established for pre-orders so we'll know after that date the process will begin to get the kits completed.

Ian, I do want one, I really do!!! I watched you fly yours at Nash and I wanted one then. I guess the reason why I haven't jumped on the bandwagon is the price. This is essentially a 40 size plane and 150.00 plus shipping just seems a little steep to me when it doesn't come with landing gear. Ya'll know I'm a cheap bastard so take that into consideration. I want one, I'm just trying to decide if I really want to let go of 150 hard earned American dollars for one??

All that said I am sure it's a great kit, and probably worth the asking price, but you asked, and that's my honest answer...

I paid $108 for the MadCap 50 short kit 2 years ago.

Ian's planes are more of a 60 size IMO. Just reduced weight to being on the heavy side for a 40 size.

I wish I could get one, vehicle parts and medical bills have me completely broke. My MadCap is incredible and it's the original design.

They really are a 60 size. The edge I just built for Case was the same size as my ee60!

I'll probably put a .91 or hunnert on my cap when I get to buy one.

I have not set a firm date because I'm more concerned with quantity than I am time. I would like to run the pre-orders for less than 2-3 weeks but I would also like to get around 10 orders in so the shipping cost of materials doesn't hurt quite so bad. It would take something truly unusual to happen for pre-orders not to close in a couple weeks.

You hit the nail on the head. Don't make the mistake of thinking that this is a slightly oversize 40 size. It is far larger in all respects. In fact it is the same size as its distant relative the mad yak 60.

I was expecting some balking about the price. This is the most expensive 60 size profile kit that I know of and let's be honest, the bros are some of the cheapest bastards I know. Usually this is a good thing, but imho it is killing the kit industry. Prices for profile kits are still based off of morris hobbies pricing from the late 90's. Inflation being what it is, that means that kits should be up at or over $200 and they aren't. When I designed the cap and edge I decided that I wasn't going to worry about cost of materials. Everything in this kit is expensive. There's something like 2-3 times as many CNC sheets as any other kit in its class. The carbon fiber tube is twice as expensive as a fiberglass tube. The included control horns cost a bit to make. All of that makes the kits more expensive, but it also makes them, in my opinion, the most advanced profile that you can buy. Take that cost to manufacture the kits and throw a little bit on top and you're at $150, and I'm definitely not getting rich off of these things.

I think $150 is reasonable for what's gone into getting it right and light! Comparable size WWRC kits are $225 and don't come with landing gear or hardware either. That's $66 more. What kits come with that besides the uber-crappy hardware and gear from VH in their arfs.
