Anybody wanna see a Fusion 75?

So, you think you're a builder?

She flies!

Only got one flight in before it got too dark for my eyes, but was able to feel it out some. First, elevator and rudder are INSANE for a plane this size. Pinwheels are easy, as is waterfalls within the length of the fuse. Actually did a couple of KE walls. Hovers are easy, but I was having some trouble harriering due to a wing drop and low throttle problems. Forgot to check CG but I think it may be a little tailheavy. I'm pretty rusty at 3D so I need to get some more stick time to relearn how to do stuff. But overall, I give it an 8 out of 10. The DLE35 could pull it out of a hover, but it wasn't ballistic by any means. And I could feel the extra weight. I think it would be perfect a couple lbs lighter.

Had trouble with landing because my idle was too high and I couldn't get it low enough to slow the plane down. Will fix that before the next outing.

Got two more flights on the Fusion this evening. Engine running better so I started to try some more stuff. KE is very nice, barely any rudder at all and just a touch of pull to the canopy. Inverted required a breath of down to keep it level, so balance is almost perfect. The DLE35 has enough power but it could use a little more oomph pulling out of a hover.

There is a tendency to drop the right wing when going slow and pulling hard on the elevator. Had a little trouble keeping the nose up in harrier, but it was manageable with a little speed. Couldn't get it to flat spin, but I think that was me. Always have trouble with that for some reason.

This is turning out to be a more high energy plane that the low and slow style I prefer. Still think it's too heavy for that. If I could shave 2lb off, I think it would be great. Honestly think I can get at least 1.5lb lighter with a rebuild. Just trying to decide if I want to do that or not. If I'm going to rebuild, may as well go with a tried and true design like the 30cc LamYak. Loved the 50cc one.

After the fuse redesign, I got all the parts cut out. Total weight unassembled with two 12mm tubes is 15.9oz. Still need to add the firewall, hardwood angle aluminum support, landing gear support, and tailwheel mount. Pretty happy with that weight. Going to slim the landing gear down also and save about 6-7oz. Hopefully 11.5lbs will be achievable.

Forgot to make some tube hugger pieces that will get installed above and/or below the tubes. Should add some needed support for the ply crutch pieces, and not add much weight. IF the new fuse works out as well as I hope, I may go ahead and redo the wings also.

Quietly following along.........Will be curious to see if the re-design gives up some of the fuse rigidity.

Keep up the good work. :tu:

I have no doubt it will sacrifice some rigidity. Question is, just how much, and will it be too much? No time to work on it today, but I hope to start gluing tomorrow afternoon.

i don't understand, mine don't... but i didn't add 5 pounds of sheeting, just some spars and covering.

Hows about you build a 35cc size one using WF construction and see how it holds together. :D

the 20cc ones i built held together fine. crashed wild hooker hard first flight. on video. crashed when thom flew it thru trees, on video. was still flying good- and LIGHT- when i sold it at nash. the wildcrazed been broke in half, can't tell. the bipe been dumped hard twice, minor damage, had to re-glue and pin bottom wing...

and since when did probros start building planes to crash rather than fly? i think you might want to re-examine your build philosophy,,, or stop questioning wf, i will keep telling the truth and make you look stupid. so get smart, use foam with sparts, cover it, fly it, be happy. or keep re-inventing your same (heavy) wheel, and defending it, then be unhappy with it, build another, repeat.

i could be wrong, but seems to be a common theme with all your build threads.

don't take this critique personal. take it as the TRUTH. ask anyone else here about your threads and mine. see what they say, see if they say i'm lying... lighten up, duude... literally!

and i do think your threads have value, some unique ideas and innovations there. your build skills are above average. you just 40% too heavy on everything. simplify, simplify. or as andrew lippisch says, "if it feels too heavy, it's too heavy" don't know who he is? google him, the first hooverer.
