I think I fugged up - how to proceed

PostPosted: Tue Oct 20, 2020 12:42 pm

I am getting ready to cover the fuselage, wings, rudder, and elevator for my Mojo 60. I cannot figure out how you guys get the elevator into the elevator slot (sorry I am not good with correct terms) on the fuselage, which makes me think that I obviously fugged up. When I glued the fuselage pieces together I glued the tube to the upper and lower half. In hind sight I am thinking that the elevator should be glued in then glue the tube in.

So how do you guys cover the fuselage with the tube glued in and install the elevator where it is suppose to mount?

If the tube is suppose to get glued in after the elevator how should I fix my mistake?

Use a fine tooth jigsaw blade and cut around the tube to remove it or cut the balsa behind where the elevator mounts, glue in elevator, then glue in a replacement piece?

The tube was glued in with gorilla glue.
This is a removable wing plane.

Cut the rudder post, slide/glue the elevator then fill the gap on the rudder post with a piece of balsa.

cut rudder post. slide in elevator. glue piece back in. if you angle your cuts, it's easier to line piece up as it's now triangular.

Thanks guys! I follow you on doing angled cuts to make installing the replacement piece easier.

Would you cover the fuselage up to the elevator before glueing in the elevator or cover the fuselage after glueing in the elevator?

I am going to use different colors of ultracote on the top and bottom of the elevator/elevator stab. What is the best way to install the covering at the edges where the two different pieces meet? Wrap one piece all the way around and then wrap the other over so it has some ultracote to adhere to?

In case anyone is wondering this is the first plane I have built and will be covering.

I will re-read the first one a couple times before covering. Lots of good info in that thread.

The second thread is way over my head. It's a very well done design!
