Best fuel mix for 2and 4 stroke combined???

PostPosted: Mon Oct 26, 2020 4:21 pm

I have several OS 95’s, magnum 91’s and SAY-Toes—72-125 bla bla Blah

Is there a fuel mix that can run in my OS 55’s also???

Have a fuel blender nearby.

So bro’s ... is it possible? Or just a lazy pipe dream ?

I’m home recovering from the Wuhan virus and my brain comes up with this.

Thanks for the input

Been doing it for years on our 12.5% club fuel without issues. Not saying it’s the best way, but works fine for myself and other club members :tu: I’ve always been told to keep four stroke fuel away from two strokes. I’m sure someone else will chime in.

I've been running the Saito/YS 20/20 blend in all my engines for years with no issues.

IF you really want the best that can run in both 2 and 4 strokes. You can use 30% IF you increase the head clearance by adding an extra head shim on the 2-strokes. Otherwise 15-20% max. 30% will give only a slight increase in power but what it gains you is a better sweet spot on the needles, easier tuning.

I used to do this for simplicity. 30% heli fuel in all of em. But with the price of fuel now, and how well the 120ax runs on 15%, the money savings was worth carrying two fuels

Of course I barley fly anymore so the point is pretty much moot with me

I've somewhat settled on 4 strokes even though I have a couple older K&B 2 strokes that haven't been run. I'm going to run YS 20/20 in the 4 strokes and if I ever get the 2 strokes going I'll go 10%. I've done the 30% in a 2 stroke in the past and I just added a couple head shims. It worked fairly well when I lived in Colorado but when I moved back to this area for the second time 12 years ago, it wasn't that good so I just accepted that I needed two different fuels.

I will only use a good 30% heli fuel, I have bought used planes along with my own over the years and the 30% heli fuels work in all cases Ive ever ran, heres just a few examples, Saito Hunert, YS120, YS 140, Ys 53, Ys 63, Jett 30, Webra .32, Webra 35 on mousse can mufflers, OS 25 on MCM, Thundertigre .15............

I also use K&B HP plug in 2c and Enya#3 or OS plugs in 4c.

WHY, because premium heli fuels actually have great oils in the 22-23% content by volume so with that much oil into a fixed orfice its actually lean on fuel as compared to a 10-15% oil content by volume.

Works for me and IF I get an OS55 2c Its gonna see the same, 30% heli fuel, Ive never been so impressed with how 30% heli is so much different than traditional fuels.

red max, clover sc. 40 years i have bought from them.they got it,or will mix whatyou want. will return your calls. did not like shipping quart cases at first, now do. just open, dump in gallon can. always fresh, add as need. 15 cent does me good, with bit of caster, south thing. 30 cent small engines.

Our club used to buy a 55 gal drum of Red Max, great stuff. Never had issues with it at all...nobody did. Hardest part was getting everyone to agree on what mix to get. Ended up being about $10/gal. Eventually, our club morphed into mainly e power :gay: so that deal stopped.
