Doug, I hope you don't mind that I started this thread in your vendor forum. Just thought it was the appropriate place.

Now that the kits are arriving to Bros hands let's see your birds, and hear your thoughts, as you build, cover, and fly this wonderful looking creature. I have not done anything on mine yet as I'm working on wrapping my SPAD build. But I'll kick off this thread with a pic of the kit, right out of the box, to hopefully inflict misery on those of you who did not order one.

Nice, Doug! Very nice package. :tu:

mmm...I think you're supposed to glue the spars together before putting the ribs on.

No glue yet. Test fit.

Enough for tonight...had some gaps in my stick work that weren't great, but overall not too bad. I love the CNC pieces--nice tight fit and the tabs are perfect (no dropped pieces, etc). Thanks Doug!

What's the word on landing gear? Seems like a good candidate for no gear, but if I just will have to add weight to the nose I might as well put it on and do actual landings--I just realized I've been flying foamies in a balsa desert for like 5 years and haven't put gear on a plane in about that long. There is a track at our park, so I've got a surface to use, but if the landing gear is optional I may just skip it. Input welcome on this one.

Working on the slab tonight...in about 2 hours once the kids go to sleep. After I posted the elevator pick last night and told myself I should go to sleep I decided to build the rudder, so with any luck I'll be able to get to where I can cover it this weekend.

You're not worried about torquing the prop?

True. I have broken a few when I don't flare enough when setting it down, but not too many that I recall. Now that I think about it I probably won't be grabbing the plane from a hover to impress my kids like I do with the foamies, so it'll see a lot more regular landings.

Most of the pics I've seen on this site have gear, but most are also much larger planes. Sounds like it is safe to assume most of you put gear on a plane of this size, then? I'm cool with that if so.

I'm new getting back into the sport, so it was more a question of what's normal. I don't have a hobby shop on island, so I have to order all of my parts.

I'm not on an island, but I might as well be - I still have to order all my parts. No hobby store here anymore. For many years we had one that stocked a wonderful selection of balsa and hardware. Gone now.

:(

Everyone has there own preference on the landing gear.
Mine is 40" wingspan and longer gets gear. Under 40" no gear.

I did not run gear on mine and the only way I would is if I was flying from a field that had a paved runway.
