What should I kit next?

PostPosted: Sat May 30, 2020 7:15 am

After I finish up this run of Slicks I am thinking about doing a 60 size bird. I don't know what the price for the kits will be yet as I have not done any figuring and balsa could increase again any day. If you think you might be interested in a 60 size please vote on which one you would like to have. For now I am leaving this between the Mojo 60 and Primo 60. I bashed the Primo design into a MXS but have not built one yet. I am doing this poll to see if there is enough interest to make this worth while. Please don't vote if you have no interest in either one.

Thanks Bro's!

Good Form, Doug! :tu:

But ... Ah, Man, I already voted. Never dreamed you'd take me seriously. How do I undo my single vote?

And what happened to the Mojo vote! There appears to be some voter manipulation going on here.

Ah, I see what you did here now! Thanks! I'm in for both.

I'm guessing you have a local balsa stocking hobby store nearby? Or perhaps, a significant, private, personal stash you've accumulated?

I wish! When balsa becomes unavailable there will be no more kits. I actually got worried when I placed my order through National Balsa for the Slick kits. They sent me an email that said they were out of 36” stock due to the global shortage.

I mostly scratch build because I enjoy it and a saves a few bucks. I cut all my sticks from sheets which also saves a few bucks. I get basswood and 1/8" ply from a local cabinet shop where I by materials for work, which saves a few bucks. Sometimes I get lazy and dont want to cur parts. After many scratchbuilds, cnc cut parts are a real treat

+1 from me!

The "where to buy balsa" has been beat around here on the forum many times. As most of us know, the quality of balsa has just continued to go downhill. This past winter I bought the Aero Light Bargain Grade sheets from National for my scratch build. and it was excellent (approx 7 lb/cu/ft). But, like Doug said, it looks like their supply has dried up.

I just found that Aloft Hobbies sells balsa and it looks like it can be ordered. Has anybody tried them for balsa?

Ordered wood from balsausa, ordered more times from them than others, not the cheapest, but all but one order was great lumber. National has great prices but takes forever, at least that was my experience.

I let you guys know what I get
