Lectric question

This is not a slab question, but we have such a well rounded bunch here, I’m sure I can get an answer.
I have a buddy that is building his first kit. It an old Great Planes Super Sportster 20. It calls for a 20-25 glow.
He wants to go electric. Can anyone suggest an electric motor size, battery(3 cell, 4 cell?) and prop for an airplane in this
category?

I think a power 10 motor “35mm” would do the trick . 50a esc. 2200mah 3s. I would shoot for 1200kv to keep the prop size down for landing gear clearance . Probably 11x6 . A inline watt meter is a nice tool to double check amp draw

built this a while back with that setup. is actually comparable to fp40, which is a good choice for that plane- this one was pretty doggone speedy with it.

shoot, back when i had the hobby shop, i built over 300 a.r.c. ferroplanes 1 year. think al still has a n.i.b. one!

honestly, balsa kinda crappy as a kid, circa late 60's. said it couldn't be grown on plantations domestically. late 70's got better. late 80's, was light, straight grained. by mid 90's was beautiful, light, fairly cheap. turns out big plantations of cultivated balsa by now. then f-ing windmills. they grind up beautiful balsa, mix with glue, engineered (read fucked up but quantifiable strength) stuff.

they could use foam just as easy, and leave the beauty of the grain to those like us to appreciate it.

but i learned long ago, if you can't beat them- don't join them- outperform them at their own game. done that all my life. autism is a bitch sometimes, but it has it's advantages.

when riley wooten's lone star balsa burnt down, that was about when the balsa industry took a dump.

anyone else besides me- and maybe matt- know who riley wooten was??? or fast richard? or why a 1947 green hudson terraplane sedan with the trunk open in the snyder swamp was f-ing hilarious? dick mathis was w.f. when w.f. admired fast richard, by the way. my kinda dude. look up the "fast richard sneak", great combar trick. and the mongoose slow combat. i flew the ercoupe, suited my style as it was weird but i rocked it against any comers. gold solarfilm covered, fox .35 powered. how could it not be cool? but i ramble. young men have visions, old men dream dreams. and i got a lotta beautiful dreams of the past, wedged in between the terror. no, don't ask about that- the good times are the only things worth a fuck.

It was a lot faster with a 4s 2200 with a 9x8 on it I Believe.

YES! I remember Riley Wooten. And I remember Fast Richard (Dick Mathis). And the adventures in Snider Swamp. Fast Richard wrote some absolutely hilarious articles in the old Flying Models magazines way back then.

yep! the bounty hunter ff was featured a while back in the ama rag, mathis did a bunch of planes!.

i built a couple of his planes from plans. the iron butterfly and the tear-a-long (the dotted lion) were 2 i remember building around 75 or so. i think was still using the os III .15 then, hadn't gotten the fox schneurle yet. that and a 7-4 taipan prop was a game changer. i think the last taipan props i ever bought were from lone star, like 2005 or so. i might have even sent staino one when i built the 6 ferros for the memphis mafia, so he could whoop some azz!

Can anyone recommend me a good Bro approved ESC for 80A 4s Set up? Capable of 6v to the swervos? Found some 22g blue bird Tg minis I’d really like to try in a 40 size set up. They claim a little over 70oz of torque at .05 speed
