Morris Chipmunk and Power 32

PostPosted: Fri Mar 22, 2019 10:46 pm

I was lucky enough to acquire a 25 size Morris Chipmunk that about 15 to 20 years was built by PAR for a friend of ours that was going to try 3D but never did. The servos were built in but the pull-pull cables were never run. It was built for glow but I have a Power 32 from a bird that is no longer worth fix up. The ESC will not be a problem as it is 80amp my question is that not sure what the prop used mostly on that size bird and power.
Help will be greatly appreciated, and Thanks in advance.

What kV is that power 32 and what batteries do you plan to use?

Jim, to run on 3S it needs to be a 1200-1500 Kv. 770 is barely 4S territory, I like 850-900 on 4S.
What size is the plane? WS?

4S-5S is going to be choice. Prop and ESC would just be too big with a 3S. You'd need a 15 inch prop on 3S.

I had the Power32 on an Eflite Beaver; it was good but not ballistic power on 4S with a 13x6.5 prop on that plane, which was about 5-5.5lb's IIRC. If you can get your plane to 4-4.5lbs with a 14x7, you should probably be ok, but as the others noted, it's lower kv than the Bros like for ballistic power...

If I remember correctly, I only had an Eflite 60A esc on that plane, and it would pull about 700w with either the 13x6.5 or later, a 12x8 3 blade, so that's about 50A. Eflite motors are somewhat conservatively rated, and I think you could push it a lot harder than that, so a 14x7 or maybe 15x6 on 4S might be do-able...

This plane actually came back home awhile back. I've got a Magnum 28 that looks like it will fit just fine. 8)
