A different kind of build thread, still working with wood.

This is the place to hang and talk.

Thanks for posting this. I've got stairs to contend with as well. Mine have partial Oak tread/riser plates under the baulisters of the handrail because the stairs had carpet. Would like to go all Oak like you have, but was warned to put carpet back for safety reasons. That and to have to dismantle the handrail and all the baulisters is way beyond my comfort zone. Probably just do the lower landing in all Oak like you did for sure.
Man, that really turned out nice.

Finally got the new newel, handrail and iron spindles installed. Big change from the old handrail and white painted wood spindles.

I got the newel ordered in by a local stair supply place. It's built up with 1x1 oak stick with a 1/4" oak veneer on the outside. But it's solid as a rock.

Finished up some of the trim work. Won't look all that different from the last pic, but all the white trim board is nailed, painted and caulked. Just need to knock out the painting on the stairs and in the upstairs hall.

Also, here's a couple of shots of some of the slate floor I put in the dining room and the custom transition I cut for the doorway. I know the grout lines look funny in the pic, but it's not really bent like that, it's actually a pretty straight run all the way cross.

And in the background you can see the wing of my Q EPP Extra 260 next to a big pile of king cakes.
