Well, I had a little time on my hands, so I decided to try out a Slide 58 (or two). After building a Mojo60 and a RazorYak last year, I thought the Slide was at least as easy as those kits to build. Here is the first one covered (I've got another "in the bones"). I won't have very much time to work on RC planes over the next month and a half, so I'm not sure when I'll get to fly it:cry: .

Nice chumly! What size landing gear did you put on yours? I have the large and extra large and can decide which to use.

Fuse looks a little different on the removable wing one too.

Thanks! Not sure what the size of gear is called, but the length of the gear is 9 inches not including the mounting tabs. I got them from WrongwayRC so he would know the right size.

The only engine I have laying around right now is a Saito 125 - it's a little bigger than recommended, so it should be just about right :tu:

Beautiful work, chumley. And as someone said, the fuse is indeed different on the RW version. I finished my FW last fall and it has upright vertical members instead of the slanted ones. I ended up moving the servos forward for CG purposes, so it actually worked out better for me with them vertical.

And anyway, who wouldn't want a vertical member? :)

Speaking of gear, I ended up bending my own out of aluminum
from Lowes. I originally tried 90-size Tetherites, but they were just too bendy.

I used slanted members on my FW Erik per plans. Did I screw up?

Beefed up the rons too after reading about to much flex.

Art, my kit was old, OLD. I think I bought it from the first run backslider did a couple years ago. I think yours is the current (or at least newer than mine) version of the FW. I imagine the slanted uprights are stronger than the vertical ones.

Tetherite 90 size.

Not too bendy for me, every landing is harrier landing, have not broken any on 3 Slides of mine and a couple of local customers use the 90 size, theres are just fine too.

WrongWayRc is a Tetherite Dealer and carries the 60 size, $17 plus $1.99 shipping.

Hi Guys,

I just moved to northern Alabama, and now have a building season (versus Miami, FL). Two years ago I put together a Primo .40 with a few mods, I posted pics here. I loved the plane, but it had a low number. So, I'd like to build another profile.

Can someone post a comparison to how the Slide flys compared to the Primo? I liked the thinner wing of the Primo per se, versus a really fat airfoil. I want the plane to "fly" well, and also do 3d.

It looks from these pics that the building either the Slide(s) or the Primo are similar. All ideas welcome.
thanks,
Jim

I just let Sloan have a couple flights on my Slide 58 a couple days ago. Since he owns the 60 size primo maybe he will join in....

Some comments I heard on the Slide 58, too easy, no KE coupling, great rolling circle trainer....but those were general statement, not comparative.

I can say that I have owned the Slide 58 and the MoAss 56.....remember the ad from the President of Norelco some years ago?

Jim,

The WWRC version of the Slide 58 is a removeable wing. The standard version of the Primo 60 is fixed wing which may be harder for you to transport. Swany's offers a removeable wing option on the Mojo 60 but I didn't see if it was offered on the Primo. If it is, the prices of the two kits would be close. As far as building, I found the Slide to be an easier build than a fixed wing Mojo. They are constructed similiar, but the two piece wing with a tube make the building and covering easy IMHO. Also, the Slide is a little larger of the two, but still a real light airplane. WWRC runs a Saito 100 on his, but I plan on using a 125 as that is what I have sitting around. Both of these airplanes will perform real well for you, but having just built a Slide (OK, I built two), I wanted to make sure you were taking all factors in to account.
