I unloaded my 80" Aeroworks Extra last winter. There was also a f'ed up sale for one of these OMP kits over on RCG a week or so back. Some Fucktard listed the kit after a handshake deal was already done with Constrictor.

There's a guy from CoosBay ProBro name Tracy who flies one here too.

that really pissed me off too. I had an ad looking for omp kits and he sent me a pm. we had the deal worked out and next thing I know he posts it on rcg. then he didn't sell it to me OR on the rcg ad. pisses me off too because im getting low on 80" omp kits.

Thanks Case. Looking for info (hopefully a Bro) who can answer a few questions about it in regards to how it flies.
Thanks :tu:

it's not a bad flying plane,it does and will fly slow due to the fat wing.does all the easy stuff well, flat spin & inverted.knife edge pulls just a little to caopy, hovers easy.i started out with a OS160 on a can, then went to a Moki 210 on a can,now I have a BME44 on it and its almost to light just a little tail heavy but not bad.the BME is about the same power as the Moki.
spins a 20-8 at 7800.

WCB sent me a PM asking about what the OMP 80" Edge 540 flew like. Things like does it harrier well, flip and spin well, how loose is it, what you are powering it with, that kind of stuff. Instead of replying in a PM, I thought this thread would be the best place to answer his question so others could read it too, and more importantly so those who have flown the 80" Edge might chime in with their thoughts on the plane.

Back in 2008 my round one video contest entry was an OMP 80" Edge 540 ARF. This particular plane was purchased used from Funflyr, with an OS 160, and a Jerry Smith mousse can pipe. The pipe noticeably increased the top end power of the OS 160, but the throttling really sucked for 3D flying, so the pipe was replaced with a stock muffler. An APC 18x6w prop ended up being the best overall performer.

Here's a link to the old video of the 80" Edge 540 ARF in action with the OS 160, a stock muffler, and the APC 18x6w prop.

As you can see from the video, flying the big Edge is sort of like flying a slow motion kite. It harriers very well. Spins and flat spins are good, but happen in slow motion due to it's large size and relative light wing loading. The big Edge can still do most of the 3D stuff a 40 size profile can do, but it just does it at a much slower pace. So I would consider the OMP 80" Edge 540 to be pretty much the opposite of a loose plane like a Mad Yak or Chinn Yak. If you're looking for a big profile to relax with while impressing the peanut gallery simply because of it's size, this is probably what you're looking for. However if you're expecting the same fast paced adrenaline rush of a 40 size plane, you won't find it here.

Here's a thought Steve...contact Mike P. and buy him out of his designs, purchase a CNC machine and start producing kits till you're closets, roof and house burst at the seems with OMP kits...LOL

thanks for the suggestion, Andy. But I am broke as hell, and would never stock up a kit that I couldn't build in a few months.

I've always thought that the wing span on these is too much per the fuse length. I bet it would be a bit more fun if the span was knocked down to 72" or so or fuse length increased.

I've had a few oversized profiles. OMP Edge, OMP Yak, MOJO65....

They are all kites Like McDD said. My Edge was too easy to fly and slow so I ditched it. My OMP Yak was the same way so I lengthened the tail a bit and oversized the elev/rudder and SHORT'nd the Wing Span about a 12". I Put some really good fast strong servo's on it and it was as loose as my chinn YAK. I think too much wing causes the kite thing. Shorten the wing up and it will allow it to rotate a little easier and don't chince on those servo's.

Search on BIG PINK WAGAS---oh that didn't come out right....

This vid is pretty much qualifies as OMP 80" Edge 540 "porn"... "Too good" not to pass alone, but unlike aggressive McDDD flying(which is  ), this one is a little "laid back" 3D where Edge is in its element.

Don't know who the pilot is, but it is 35CC gasser with a rail mount, I think OMP distribute this engine as a package to this plane.
2-stroke engines are THE MOST ANNOYING THING(<-click on red link ;) )
