Ultimate 10-300

Ultimate 10-300

PostPosted: Wed Aug 11, 2010 8:50 am

I bought one of these several years ago and I'm going to install a DLE 20 gasser. Are there any mods needed? Carbon tubes in the fuselage?
Thanks,
Frank

Which one did you got?

It's better to give a more accurate info, so the Bros would be able to help you better.

I have the 50" profile Ultimate. I'm sorry, but I didn't know that OMP produced more than one.

HoverLow may not have known that OMP offered an Ultimate.....if I were doing another OMP Ultimate, I'd probably inlay some cf tubes....maybe .188" type.

Nah... All ladies have a room in my heart, no matter what!! :D

In fact, my avatars just need one request to be put up: Nice curves!!

Personally I have a better attraction to brunettes though.

Well, I certainly like your avatars! Guys, thanks for the info. Started building one of the upper wing panels. And I think that I screwed up. Nothing is mentioned about using "rib halves" which are strips of rib shaped pieces that look like the curved rib shape but only about 3/8" wide. Where do they into into the rib panel? I went back and studied the instructions but no help.
Are these the rib doublers?
I do know that they go somewhere because I now know that I don't have enough ribs without them. I must be a real dummy! Please don't kick me out of the Profile Nation!

Hi somiss1! We are no nation, just a bunch of fuckers in a brotherhood. So, introduce yourself so we can call you a FAG. Which is a good term, since you are building a slab. And, one that's pretty bad ass.

A nation is like rcgroups (rcpoo on this board). You can get banned from a nation, and embraced by the 'hood.

Post pics about your dilemma, some one will help.

If you do build it with the DLE, post a thread and give us some flight reports.

I've still got a 10-300 in the box ( I think I got the second to last  ) and a hunnert in the box waiting for it. If yours flies good on a DLE I may change my plans.

I was also thinking that foam fuse needs some carbon or TUBE lovin'

Frank-
I had the instructions saved on my PC, I think the photo below shows what you are supposed to do with the rib doublers. If you cant find them I'd just get some balsa out of your scrap box and trace a rib to make one.

Thanks, guys! I did figure out that they were doublers. I put the unmarked ribs as doublers-I guess they won't hurt anything. I cut out 14 ribs last night to make up for my mistake-call it pennance! Wing construction will continue. As for tubes, I am going to put in two to shore things up a bit.
The DLE is not due in until the end of the month so I have some time for construction. I will use a 6oz tank that Jody used in his blog on RCU. Then comes my least favorite chore of covering. I plan to post pictures of the progress and I'll let ya'll know how the DLE powers the Ultimate.

One wing panel completed. I should have known that the 1/16 " sheeting was a little too hard to bend around the leading edge and both pieces cracked. Damn! So, for the remaining 6 pieces, I sprayed Windex and rubber band them to a tube in order to form the curve of the leading edge, and, hopefully, no cracked balsa. I'm not bitching that the balsa was very firm as I will need that for the gasser. Live and learn and thank God for splacklin putty!

Hey did you ever get this bird in the air?

This thread, and the recent demise of my big Mojo got me to dig out my stashed kit and start building it. I think Im going to stick with the Saito 100 I have - figuring this will come out around 6.5lb, which might be a bit light for the 20.

Took me long than I expected-- new baby will do that - but mine is into covering stage. I'll put a picture thread in the gallery soon.

Still taking longer than usual with the babies... now toddlers (x2) :) But mine is getting close. Hunnert with a 15x6 up front. Futaba 2.4, DS821s and a Hitec MG digital on rudder.

(edit: the linked photo got cut off so attaching)

I used the USAF Reserve Pitts demo plane http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2274/2490585557_77c0a5db1c_z.jpg scheme for inspiration, and I'm thinking to put "ULTIMATE" in big block letters across the top wing and put the Bro logo graphic on the rudder.
