Goofy Edge44 AKA "Glitter JR"

So, you think you're a builder?

Goofy Edge44 AKA "Glitter JR"

Calling it the Edge44
This is just the Edge that Goofy designed shrunk down to a 44" span.

Here are the specs.

Span 44"
Lentgh 40"
Wieght 35oz or less
Wing area 453 sq in
motor 3542 900kv
ESC 50 amp
battery 2200mah 3S 30C lipo
Servos Tork 1811 on rons and solar D658 in the tail.
CG 4.25" from LE of root rib

So the build is pretty straight forward and on V2 I will document every step of the build. On to how it flys.
Its freaking sweet. harriers are nice and smooth and inverted is pretty well locked in in my opinion. Hoooovers awesome wants to torque roll. I think it could stand to have a little more aileron authority in a hover but there is plenty there when flying around. Elevator is more than effective was able to pretty much get it to rotate around the wing at WOT and full up elevator. KE I'm getting dialed in but it does it great. Very small amount of roll back to the belly and tending to want to pull to the canopy. A little on the nose heavy side at first but after cutting 1/4" off the nose so I could recess the motor all the way back and not need small standoffs that got better. Think it could stand to be a little further aft but I can play with the battery location some more. Rolls aren't quite axial. Have checked and I'm getting even travel up and down on both rons so I guess I will need to add a little differential into them.
I built this with a 1/4" fuse and carbon arrow shaft trying to keep the weight down trying to keep the wing loading down. After flying it I think the next one will get a 3/8" fuse and tube as the elevator is chasing the tail a bit in rolls.

Now for some videos

I have one more video that is uploading now of it flying with the landing gear and repairs from the first dork it had.

Love the blue tips on your lil nip. Looks solid and fast. Awesome how you guys all figure out how to overcome the floaty slab. It'll be tough to overcome the the tourque roll with that popsicle stick sized wing, the ails are plenty effective  let her roll!

Sweet build and maiden flights! :tu:

I played with Chris's nipple today........ And I liked it!

Slab flew great even in the wind and between the rain drops. It's a keeper. :tu: :tu: :tu: Power was very good. Only thing that would make that better would be 4s. It was a touch nose heavy. I made a couple of suggestions to Chris. Chris also tried a cash drop and on pull out flung a battery. Elevator stuck in up and it harriered itself to the ground with no damaged.

This slab rocks. I think you got something here Goofy

The next one will get tried on 4S but the 1/4" fuse on this one I don't think will last no long.

Just keep in mind that the 1/4" fuses have held up fine on the Doug G planes and the Wild Tiger also has a 1/4" fuse I believe. Ya gotta get a bigger tube though  , pun intended haha.

Sounds like a seat belt for the battery and velcro on both of the sides of the battery is in order. Anything 3S 1000mah and bigger get that treatment on my planes since ejecting batteries is really bad.

I wish we lived closer, I'd love to fly that Edge.

Yeah Chris I didn't have the seat belt strap tight enough. Did a cash crop again later and it held on just fine. I'm sure a bigger tube would help but I think 3/8" fuse will be a bit more dorkable and I dork a lot. Flat spun my mojo into the tall grass today. The CJ's where amazed that I just went and picked it up fired it back up and into the the air it went. I believe Kenny said one guy asked "Is he really gonna just go fly that thing again"? I figured the prop and landing gear where still intact and all the controls surfaces wiggled so Fuk it what else could be wrong. Cash dropped that mofo a couple times and it survived and it all ready has a busted main spar.

Wild Fred uses half inch fuses in his light stuff. With 1/8 inch diagonal bracing, to me it seems just as light and strong.

My lamsuk is a cpl oz lighter and stiffer then my cap232, In all fairness the cap does have heavy wood in it

3/8" fuse will solve my problems. Doing a couple other things on it to change it and cut some wieght si I think I will still end up around the same weight.

Yeah. It will be uploaded Monday night when at work with decent internet. Got video of my launching the battery on the glitter, flat spinning the mojo into the weeds, and a nice KE harrier on my sabre35 inches off the ground sitting in one place.
