Let's hope the FAA will now leave model aircraft alone.

Is this good or bad?

Some paid the faa. Will they get a refund?

Some have been stopped by police. Will this news get to law inforcment too?

The FAA had little to say or do sense the UAS registration was implemented, but will they now try again and end up really shafting is and the hobby?? I didn't like it but I complied and nothing more was done so I was satisfied with leaving well enough alone. But now I'm uncertain again because they could try again with a much more negative policy next time.

If this ruling holds up we can expect nut to come back to flying since the reason he quit was because of the stinkin government registration!

I agree with you about what might come in the future from the FAA.

I've seen several fake news "drone aircraft strikes". They report a drone crashed into a plane (possibly) and the last paragraph says the FAA has found no evidence of a drone striking the plane. They'll be back. Fee's never go away.

My big question is why didn't the AMA argue this instead if a JohnATaylor?
AMA seemed to advocate the FAA rules and fees.

No they are still fighting some of it. I think this guy just beat them to the punch. Without the AMA we might not have a model airplane hobby.

The AMA is exactly like the republicans in congress, scared so shitless of more losses they cave to everything the other side wants so they can save what little is left.

In reading the article, the basis for the over turn was the 2012 law passed by congress stating that the FAA could not pass any new laws regulating model aircraft. Unless the FAA appeals the decision, and it is reversed, I see no way for them to create any new laws to replace the on that was stricken down. The only other way would be if congress was to repeal the 2012 law or pass a new law allowing the FAA the power to write new regulations on model aircraft. I think the message is clear to the FAA, "leave the hobby guys alone". Of course I am no lawyer, but this is my opinion.

I do think the FAA needs to crack down on the commercial operation of drones. The number of people using them commercially and not following the regulations or even knowing the regulations is staggering.

They'll find away. They are lawyers and politicians.

I agree that commercial operations and autonomous drones need some regulation. Things that people can fly without any training or skill (drones and quads) need some kind of rule set and penalties if not followed so they won't kill our hobby. There needs to be a distinction between those and our planes and helies.

More importantly there needs to be distinction between those who fly with cameras/videos and those who don't. Those who don't cannot fly far or peep into peoples property. That is the issue.
