Shop Organize finally completed

PostPosted: Thu Mar 14, 2013 3:32 pm

Needed space and organization, as I could hardly move in my shop. I built a 2 1/2 car garage in 2000 and had very little of my RC stuff there, so I needed to move into that space. I started by building shelves / racks and bought two 2nd hand store bookshelves for $10 each. I have under $100 invested in materials in all the racks, shelves, and plane stands you will see in this thread. With left over materials from a job at work, I built a stand to hold my glue bottles upsidedown so I don't have to wait for the glue when I need to use it.

One old plane rack moved, and one new plane rack built. The great part about A123 and Lifes, is that you don't have to make sure the planes are stored in reach of a charger anymore.

I forgot one last pic. Just a nice small shelf that I got at a 2nd hand store about 15 years ago. Back then you could scoop these up for $2, $3, or $5.. Now they have really upped their prices. They would have $20 to $30 on this now.

Awesome shop sir! Especially like the plane racks! I'll probably be moving my hobby 'room' into my garage soon and will need something like that.

That's funny this thread just came up as I'm trying to do the same thing! I went down to the depot yesterday and filled up the truck with cheap shitty 2x's, a sheet or two of the cheapest plywood and found thin "temp" 4x8 pegboard sheets for 4 bucks a slice. I'm lucky to have a huge workspace, but cursed because I'm rather un-neat and a compulsive plane hoarder. all the extra room feeds the madness sometimes. I feel a blow out sale in the future as I'm finding all kinds of shit I never knew I had!

I'm absolutly stealing some of your ideas bro, and if anybody else has anything cleaver post it up.....

To hang my planes in the garage I use "over the rafter hooks" from ACE. They'll hold any plane and just hook over a 2" thick beam if you have those exposed.

Hang em by the prop. Its too dark to get pix in my garage right now but ill get some tomarrow when the rain and clouds go away.
